Subject: shift pattern IP: Logged
Message: I have an 02, 4.7 auto. I tow a trailer once a month or so and like the stock shift pattern when I do. I also drive a LOT of city and would love to be able to change the pattern to a lower shift point to improve mileage. The stock pattern is much higher than necessary. Is there any way to do this with an aftermarket comp program device? If this is a really stupid question... please be kind.

Message: There's an even easier way to do this with how you treat the loud pedal. To save gas, just go easier on the pedal and it will shift sooner too !

Message: Thanks for the input, but i already do that. I also cancel OD when I will be driving 30 - 35 mph. I want to be able to lower the shift point a few mph for normal city driving. the truck has plenty of power that it does not need the xtra rpm produced whith the stock shift points.

Message: Bump! TTT! LOL! I really can't understand why there is no response to this question. I don't want to change the engine settings either, I just want to lower the point at which the trans shifts, but be able to put it back w/o much trouble when i tow. So lets here it..... Is it possible or not?

Message: Hemi,
If you read the original question I posted, and the response to Nope, you will see the answer to yours. Then let me know how low you can get your auto to shift by "letting off the gas", mine happens to be @ 12, 22, 32 & 40 mph. I want more like @ 9, 16, 25 & 35 mph. If I use OD off, it will shift sooner ( 31 mph) into higher gear, but i want lower points throughout!! Again, read my original post and you will know why. With the letting off the gas theory I could also only travel downhill, or mount a sail on the roof....or get a manual trans!! lol. That is why manual trannies are better w/ mpg. Anyhoo, the question is a simple one. Can it be done or can it not be done. If it can be done, then how?

Message: Peedee,
Sorry I didnt understand completly what you were asking. I think a programmer like chad said may be able to adjust the shift points on the trans.

Message: There is a real simple way to do it, back off the TV cable on your throttle body a couple of notches. Sribe a mark on it where it is at now for reference, when you get it where you want it, scribe another mark on it. It is less than 1 min. change.
