Subject: Free Timing Mod done......awesome result IP: Logged
Message: Got the free timing mod from KRCperformance.com.
I initially tested the timing at idle(11 degrees). I then retested the timing after the mod at idle(15 degrees). It increased my timing 4 degrees across the entire rpm board. It now instantly lays a patch of rubber at least 10ft from a dead stop. This mod makes the truck feel alive again. Before the mod, it use to hook up and go and felt pretty doggy. This mod is good for at least a 10HP increase and the rear wheels and it's free to do. Anyone else out there tried it?? I'm totally impressed. My mid and top end performance gained in the butt dyno as well. This has been the best mod I've ever come across and it was free........can't beat that.

Message: Well if you believe his truck went from being a complete dog to laying 10ft of rubber after doing this mod, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell ya.
I'm not saying it's not possible to gain some HP, but he said he did the dyno, so lets see it then. Show me the money. I'll bet the house it never gets posted though.

Message: Do you have a 2000 or newer truck that no PCM is offered for or the dealer pulled 4 degrees of timing out of, with the DRBIII to keep your truck from having detonation or pre-ignition problems, and now the truck is a pig? Sluggish and generally will not spin the tires from a stoplight, even with a 360?
Then advance your timing.
Your timing is set initially by the crankshaft sensor and the distributor has the camshaft sensor in it to determine when the injectors fire relative to the amount of valve opening. So moving the distributor does not affect base timing. But moving the crankshaft sensor relative to it's current position does. The trick is this, and takes about one hour. This will work on any Dodge truck 92- to present except for the 4.7L or the V-10.
Remove the crankshaft sensor on the aft/passenger side of the block. It is held down by (2) 1/2" bolts and pulls out of the tranny bell housing when loose. There is a rubber grommet in the bell housing also, remove it. Now look at the sensor's bracket, notice the 2 bolt holes. Slot each hole 3/8" both ways, still giving the bolts something to hold onto. Then insert the sensor back into the bell housing, making sure you pulled out the rubber grommet. Thread the 2 bolts back in loose, then slide the sensor as far as it can, towards the oil filter, away from the intake. This will advance, moving it towards the intake in the same direction of crank rotation and will retard the base timing; do not do this unless your teenager is driving the truck. It will usually be limited by the bell housing how far you can move it. If you are really brave, grind the bell housing and fab a new adjustable bracket. This will add 3-4 degrees of timing across the whole board of advance tables, and cure the Death Flash problem in your Magnum. That'll be $5 please.....just kidding!

Message: OK, you took an article that's been known about for over a year, made up a ridiculous story so it seemed like it applied to your truck, and also lied about getting it dyno'd.
Good job buddy!!!!

Message: I re-read the original post and never once did Tom say he had it put on a dyno....He said BUTT DYNO...Big differance. I did this mod and also noticed an improvement. The timing increase makes a huge differance on the sluggish V-6.

Message: the timing on our trucks isnt always set for optimum performance... just ask anyone who has a dak that pings (knocks). If the timing is way off and you advance/retard it just right, you can make a big difference in performance.

Message: Hey Skeptic
I did the mod and my truck went from going 15.6 in the 1/4 to a 15.2. I know thats not a dyno sheet but dynoing a truck is a waste of time. I take it to the track and see. The timing advance mod works on the newer trucks.

Message: LOL I hear ya 360 dak. I found it though and there wasn't any need to go through the wheel well to get to it!
It is a shiny metal T looking bracket just behind the passenger side head.
I just followed the wire down to it and found the bolts! Only 2 wires back there! One is for the crank sensor and the other is for the O2 sensor!

Message: It seems people have a hard time finding the sensor. When I read the article it said there was two 1/2" bolts holding it on. These are actually 5/16" bolts. The bolts on my 95 had a round, Allen head on them. I replaced them with regular 5/16" bolts when I put it back on. This might make it easier for people to find....5/16" is alot smaller than 1/2"

Message: 1/2" bolts are huge...Im not calling you a liar but that seems like overkill. If they take a 1/2" socket they are 5/16" bolts....Not 1/2"
