At least it's cheap. Nothing like a HOT air intake for ya tho. Your stock intake is better than that.

Message: UteMachine,
I would stay away from a metal intake like that thou. I think that, that intake is way to short to get good cold air, and I would never buy a metal one like that because of it absorbing so much heat. If you want a intake to look good inside your bay, just get it painted or something like that. If you dont care how it looks then you dont need to buy a metal one anyway.
Just my 2 cents :)

Message: Thanks guys,
I did find one that stretches to the passenger corner of the engine compartment. But it sounds like the aluminum is the problem. So does this make the K&N made out of plastic the best option?
Keep these good answers coming.

Message: UteMachine,
Homebrew is by far the cheapest and the best way to go if you want to be creative and try different things. Go to the local hardware store or Lowes or where ever and pick up some ABS pipe and elbows and whatnot. just DO NOT get PVC....PVC and heat is VERY bad stuff! Only buy that ABS pipe. If you get 3" pipe and get one of them rubber couplers it will clamp right onto your stock air hat. Then you can get as many elbows and pipe as you want to do with as you want. I've seen some guys put the filter in the wheel well, cut a hole in the side, and run pipe to it threw there. I've also sen guys what put the filter underneath the truck and run pipes down to it. Its all up to you.
NOW, if you have money and can stand to spend it on a good set-up, I'd just stick to the basics and go with a K&N set up. I dont like giving people advice thou on differnt companys because you always have people that are saying one is better than the other. I just like K&N because thats all I've ever tried. My duel intake has K&N on it and I've just always been faithful to them.
I wouldnt go with SOME of the crap on ebay. There ARE some nice ones on there, Vortex, K&N, and whatnot, but most of them are just crap people are trying to sell off as really good buys.
Just my 2 cents!

Message: Just an interesting side thought. Hot Rod did a test to compare metal vs plastic intakes and they found the material really doesn't make a difference.

Message: Another intake question???
I bought the Dakota because it is a truck. I use it like a truck. I don't go mudding with it or abuse it but I do live in Alaska, and that means going through a foot or two of water occasionally and a lot of dirt/dusty roads. I'm afraid to removing the plastic cover next to the radiator or put the filter underneath the truck because of this.
In my non-professional opinion, the best option for me would be to replace the stock intake with a K&N type intake. While this wouldn't provide any cold air, it would allow the engine to breathe a little easier. What do you guys think???
