Subject: Cam Degreeing Kit ... (Anyone have one?) IP: Logged
Message: Hoping to find someone, near St. Louis would be great, that has the kit that I could borrow or rent. I'd be willing to pay shipping costs and a deposit if necessary. Really don't want to spend $130+ for something that I'm only going to use once. Thanks.

Message: You are going to degree your stock cams, or are you putting in after market?
I'm just curious and wonder if your degreeing them for low end or upper end power.
I'm going to swap cams next year probably. Not sure if I will go aftermaket or just use mopar H.O.'s
Mine's a 4X4 like yours.

Message: I installed the Jeep HO cams several weeks ago and have done several other mods including the Fastman TB. I get a bad pedal vibration between the 2500-4000rpm range like many others on this site with an aftermarket TB ... although there are some that have it with just stock parts. Dan, Mr. Fastman, thought that maybe the problem could be that the cams are not "degreed" in correctly. I thought I would give it a try to see if it would help.

Message: wow that sucks. Is the vibration that bad?
I'd think they'd work ok at stock setting.
So to degree them, are you using some aftermarket sprockets with various keyways?

Message: For me the vibration is not terrible, but it's definitely enough to notice and for me to want it gone.
You would think that they would be ok at the stock setting, but then why do some people get the vibration with a straight stock motor? Obviously, no 2 trucks are exactly the same and I think that applies to the motors as well. That is the only reason that I, agreeing with Mr. Fastman, can think of why some people get this vibration and some don't. For a lot of us the aftermarket TB really seems to applify the vibration that I think was there all along, just not enough to notice. If you have a spare hour or 2, do a search on this site for "pedal vibration" and you find lots of posts about this problem. There are many claimed "fixes" and just as many reasons for the vibration, but nothing works for all the people all the time and no one thing seems to cause the problem either. That's why the idea of degreeing the cams sounded like a good one to me.
To be honest, I'm not quite sure how the whole degreeing process works, but I hoped I was mechanically inclined enough to figure it out. I'll gladly listen to your 2 cents since no one else seems to have an opinion on the subject.
