Subject: bad for the truck, or better gas milege? IP: Logged
Message: on some sports cars (viper, vett, camaro, and TA) when shifting from 1st to 2nd you are forced to shift to 4th (unless you are shifting under hard exceleration then you can use 2nd and 3rd) this is to give the car better gas milege. I was wondering if doing this in our 5 speed dak's, would give us better gas milege, or is it bad for the clutch because we dont have as much torque as the sports cars.

Message: A friend has a 99 Trans Am with that "feature" on the 6 speed. He (and everyone he knows who has one) just gives it more gas in 1st and revs it a little longer to avoid the forced 1-4 shift. He hates it. I would not do it on your Dak. Why? The GM 6-speed has ratios that are closer together than on the Dak. A 1-4 shift on a GM 6-speed is more like a 1-3 shift on a Dak. Going from 1st to 4th will just lug your engine, possibly causing premature bearing failure. Not worth the .5-1 mpg you might save.
Another bad idea from GM.

Message: it is called skip shift and yes you can also do it without hurting a thing you just leave in a 1st a little longer then hit 3rd pull 3rd a little a little longer and hit 5th and you wont hurt a thing also if you read your owners manuel it will tell you that the sooner you hit the next gear the better the gas milage will be

And there's a "fix" for that as well. I believe it's from Jet. ;)

Message: I often skip 1st. I taught this girl the other night how to drive standard. She owns a V6 gen II Dodge auto so she was qualified. He he he he he. I am sure you can just imagine the burn outs she did using my truck to learn on. A little to much gas in this thing and you get some serious squealing tires. I think she has a new found respect for Magnum power.
