Which one of these motors are better for getting horsepower out of? And what are the performance differences of a 5.2 stock vs 4.7 stock. Just curious whether I should rebuild the 5.2 or buy a 4.7 dak.

i really like my 97 5.2 5 speed but im sure the 4.7 is not a bad truck i havent drove one though , if i got another dakota the 4.7 would be a good choice, but by the time i would buy a new truck who knows what kind hemi a dakota would have

my 5.2 stock is 235 hp and 300 tq. the 4.7 is prolly the same and a way newer engine. before all the BS this is gonna start, remember one thing, 99% of the sweet mods that can be done to the 5.9 (RT), can be exactly done to the 5.2 (best part is if its a 5spd)

I don't think that 235 number is accurate for the 5.2 but that is right for the 4.7. From what I remember the 5.2 has a little more torque and the 4.7 has a little more hp. As stated above, there are a lot more mods available for the 5.2. I'm sure given more time there will be many more aftermarket mods available for the 4.7 though. I have never driven a 5.2 but I'm pretty happy with my 4.7. Oh, by the way I raced a buddy who has a 5.2. We both have Grand Cherokee's and were completely stock at the time. We ran from a dead stop up to about 70 and it was close at first but at the end I was about 1 1/2 car lengths ahead.

Actually pre 97 was rated at 225 then to 230 97 and up. 4.7s are 235hp and 295lbs torque. Im pretty sure thats close. I do know that the 5.2 was not rated above 230! Chill out dak man

The '92-'93 5.2's were 230hp/280tq. In '94, the smaller exhaust manifolds changed the numbers to 220hp/295tq.. The manual tranny and 3:92 in my '01 4.7 RC compensates for the 300 pounds less weight of the '92 5.2 auto RC 3:55 I had. Apples/oranges. The torque came on quicker with the 5.2, but that's a reflection of cubic inches. The 4.7 is slightly smoother, but hey, I loved 'em both.

So, like I said, "4.7 slightly more HP and 5.2 slightly more torque". As far as research goes, take your own advice. As far as punching me in the face, if your ever in Jax, Fl look me up and I will gladly give you the opportunity to follow through on your threat.

actually you all suck...... here goes.. pay attention. hp rating in years is as follows per the book no acceptions: 92-93 (230hp), 94-96 (220), 97-99 (230)... end of story. dak man stay off the computer it doesnt seem like you know how to use one anyways. you wanna punch someone ill give you my address.... take care all (other than dak man) :)
