Message: I'm selling my dreadfull bed cap that came with my truck. I found a guy who is interested into buying, I'm not sure what to charge him. It's a perfect fit for the truck, matches the same paint color, and is in great shape. The lock froze up in the back and I have the original keys. Does anyone know what these cost new? How much should I charge him?
And my real question, what should I use the money to buy? An electric fan or headers?

Message: I found the original invoice from when the original owner bough it. Can't really read what it says, something like "Voyager 25W". It has tinted windows and the sliding rear window, total came out to $600.30, I'm selling it to the guy for $300 OBO. The lock doesn't work but the guy would rather have it than pay $600. I might buy the electric fan instead cause I've wanted one more than the headers. Headers might come next.

Message: Billy Bob,
I really couldn't decide what I wanted to get, there is a group buy going on with the headers and Carparts.com is having a sale (I would get the fan from carparts.com). I was sort of in a rush at the time and really needed info on the cap and wanted to hear what everyone else would do in my situation.

Message: Kris,
I too am very interested in an electric fan and I have been doing quite a bit of research. I'd like to keep in touch with you as you consider and gain experience with this option. Also, I'd be happy to share my findings and inclinations with you. Bernd has alread recommended a Hayden 16" or a Black Magic ($$$) to me, and I'm sure either will work. However neither, will fit my stock shroud which I'm trying to preserve.
I'm very convinced that the stock engine driven fan is a performance and fuel economy robbing device. I also also believe that pulls way too much cfm for our witty bitty (to humour our V8 friends) V6s. Sure, we run cool, but I beleive we can be just a cool and save 2-3 mpg with a good electric fan.
Your truck is somewhat older and may be have a more direct application. I'll include some interesting websites. Let me know if you want to work together on this. Like I said, I'll dump what I've learned so far; maybe somebody else will pipe-up with some useful experience.
Thx...Kurt

Message: Thanks Kurt, I'm interested in getting a Hayden 3710. Thanx for the links, I'll check them out. I do believe the Hayden will fit in the factory fan shroud BUT the Black Magic will not. I'm in the same situation you are in. I'll keep you updated. Take care!

Message: Kris
MY stock shroud is about 21" and my stock fan is about 20" What diameters are your stock shroud and fan?
The biggest electric fan that I can find is a perma-cool 18". I think It is pretty important to match the fan and shroud diameters. Your thoughts?
Thx...kurt

Message: I'm not really sure if it's a great idea for me to even put an electric fan on anymore. I really want to but, I was sitting in a drive-thru today for a good 15 minutes. I have underdrive pulleys installed in my truck (with the bigger alternator pulley) so the charge did get really low. I put the radio, vent, and headlights on to see how low it got. Too low for comfort, if I had an electric fan going also I'm sure the truck would of died. It was running rougher when the charge got low. So far the cap hasen't been sold and I plan on finding a belt that will fit with the stock alt. pulley with the other pulleys. Now I'm having problems with the brakes, so I'll have to check those out. Take care Kurt.
