Message: Hey Jeff, I've been reading some of your older posts. Man I gotta say, what is it with you and the other 4.7L guys? Who cares which is the fastest 4.7L or 5.9L? Neither one would have gotten a second glance back in the day! I myself own a 5.9 R/T and it runs 14.8 bone stock. Big Deal! That ain't nothing special. I also own several other Mopars from way back. My Challenger runs 13.03 Bone stock at 3800 pounds on skinny street tires. That is something to brag about! I also have a '65 Plymouth (yeah those are Mopars too) that runs in the 10's.
And it's street driven. Our late model trucks run O.K. for everyday vehicles but come on man!
These trucks are more about style than anything else, and the R/T has that in Spades. But Mopar guys have to stick together, so I congratulate you on your win against the Furd (that ain't a typo). But don't think a R/T can't do that too.
I have to admit I've had a few pre-dawn stoplight encounters on the way to work, and my truck has shown it's tailights to a few mustclangs and even a few Z's. Get "real" fast, get "real" Mopar!

Message: REAL MOPAR, They get a new engine and they think its the fastest thing in the world. There's no other truck or car that can mess with the 4.7 I've done ran into a guy bragging he ran a 14.30 with just a flowmaster on a 4.7 5-speed and 3.92 regular cab. So I was impressed. I asked him to run'm. So we went and ran'm. I walked him by a truck. Then here comes the excuses. All I had done to my truck was A Borla single chamber muffller and and 10 x 2 open element airfilter. o'yeah shift kit. I was running the truck up to 5200. Thats with a 5.2 regular cab, 3.92 limited slip, same he had. I even had the stock tires on it. The best i ran at the track with it then was a 14.6 So you 4.7 guys don't impress me one bit. Jeffster let me know when you decide to bring that 4.7 down to Louisiana. I'll be more than happy to show you what Magnum power is about. Oh Yeah, I'm in the 12's on motor. No Spray. Let me know when you do that with yours. I'll be glad to take a invite to Texas, Louisiana, or Mississippi to meet you at a track. Let me know.

Message: A "bone stock" challenger running 13.03's is pretty tough for even me to swallow. That would have made every headline of every mag in 1970 had any magazine tester ever made a truly "bone stock" challenger run that number, even a 426 hemi car would be more like 13.4 w/o slicks.

Message: Bone stock R/T running 14.8 is also hard to swallow. Every magazine run and testemonial from other R/T owners (of course there is always that 1 in 5 like this guy) is showing around 15.4. I don't know where this whole half sec comes from.
You are full of shi.. Sleeper. You forget I have owned a 5.2 magnum and that engine goes down hill fast after 4,600 RPM's. The HP and Torque curve also show this. That engine with virtually no mod's will not turn 5,200 RPM's with out a serious loss of power. Try and at least make your comment's sort of seem plausabile.

Message: Sleeper318,
You are nothing but a hipocrite. First you slam jeffster for bragging about his 4.7, then you start bragging about your 5.2. Whats up with that? I think the only reason that jeffster thinks his engine is so great is because it runs faster than most other trucks with larger motors. I have owned two dakotas, the first was a 99 CC with the 5.2 and the second was a 00 CC 4x4 with the 4.7. These trucks were completely identical except the 00 was a 4x4. The newer truck with the 4.7 was noticeably faster than the 5.2 and it even had the extra wieght being a 4x4. Now I'm not saying that the 5.2 is a bad engine, it has been used for years and proven it's venerability. There's just no mistaking newer technlogy and the advancements that have been made.

Have fun in your low 13's! Yeah right!!

Obviuosly you find it hard to beleive I can beat many 5.0 stangs that's because you drive a slow ass stock 5.2 and always lose. Then you say to yourself, well if my 5.2 is faster than a 4.7 and I am always getting my ass kicked then there is no way a 4.7 will beat any 5.0's. Hello wake up and smell the oil burning 4.7's stock for stock clobber the 5.2's. The 4.7's are running neck and neck with or beating 5.9's. I guess they should have called it a 5.2 R/T in that case. You have a hopeless battle if you think you can get this one by me or anyone else that has owned both engines.

Message: Alright I knew this was going to open up acan of worms but I must defend myself.. First of all, High Performance Mopar tested a solar yellow regular cab R/T and went 14.9 you calling them liars too? As for my old stuff, well my Challenger is a 440 Six-Pack 4-speed super trak pack car wtih no significant mods from stock just a good power tune (stock in my book). Yes she does run good, and anyone in the know relises that car mags back then like "Car and Driver" got cars that already had the hell drove out of 'em.
Plus were they really good drivers? Who Knows?
And by the way my Challenger may not be a concours show car but it is a good driver and it was still affordable when I bought it (11 years ago) My Plymouth is a stripped down race car and the best thing about it is the engine. Yes I do have quite a fleet of mopars, and I work my ass off to keep 'em.

Message: Let's ask Kraw!! I have seen his site and he's a straight shooter. He will tell you himself a 5.2 stock is no real match for a 4.7 stock. The 5.2 isn't slow but it's no match for the 4.7. No knocking the motor but technology continues to advance and the evolution of the 4.7 is just another step forward. Lighter weight more power less fuel consumption. Don't worry it won't be around forever either.

Message: Saying running a 14.8 1/4 mile stock is no big deal is a complete wrong. How may cars can do it today? Now how many pure stock can do it purchased brand new for under $15,000 can do it? You adjust that Challenger Six Pac for inflation and it comes out to high $20's I bet. Go back from the pinnicle of musclecars in 1970 to 1960 and 14.8 would be about tops, go ahead to 1975 and again 14.8 would be up there as well. You are comparing something that had to meet basically no emissions standards and had 105 octane regular feul at every staion in the country, to something built under what would be considered communist regulations in 1970. The new 4.7 has so much more potential in it's motor design then the 5.9 or 5.2. Wait until the 5.7 Hemi is out and not giving the old motors the displacement advantage and you will see. Speaking of diplacement if the 4.7 was as big as the 440 and rated in the same manner it would be making more power then even the Six Pac 440, probably low end torque as well. I would absolutely love to have a 440 Six Barrel Roadrunner, don't get me wrong, and I'm wating for my R/T to arrive as well, but I still think the 4.7 Dakota with 5-speed is the way to go if you want max performance for the dollar. This isn't just for new trucks but new cars as well.
PS I really hope some tweaking on the R/T's over the years will make my pretty stripped 2001 RC R/T run better then a 14.8 as it rolls off the showroom floor, if it only will do a 15.2 after break-in I will be looking to sell it when the 5.7 hemi ends up in a Dakota (if they don't ruin the looks with the redesign.)

What can I say I love my truck? This Sleeper 318 is the best however. Stock 5.2 beats stock 4.7. That's funny.
I had a dream an ostrich came up beside me at a red light. I look over and the friggin bird is standing beside me in my truck giving me the signal. Well I go for it and lay on it when the light turns green. I look over and the ostrich is right there keeping up with me. What the fuc.. I press down as hard as I can on the gas and as soon as I hit about 4,000 rpms in second he starts to disappear in my rear veiw. Well now it gets better. At the next light a Silverado pulls up beside me and who's driving it? The same god damn ostrich that just tried to take me on foot. Well I know I will cream the Silverado and just chuckle. Light turns green and I mat it but the stupid Chevy is passing me. This is humilaiating all I see is the back of the ostriches head sticking above the head rest. Then I notice a big bottle of NOS and head off to juice my truck up for another encounter but I woke up before I could st the story right.

Message: I keep seeing the thing about 4.7s out running 5.2s. It is funny to read on the screen but it ain't playing out on the drag strip where I go. My son has a '98 rc/5 sp./3.92. He put a slowmaster and a dump on it. He consistently runs the same et as the hoard of 4.7s that show up. Some are a .10 faster and some a .10 slower but all are so close that they are basically the same. The 4.7 replaced the 5.2 because mother Mopar needs newer tecnology to pass emmisions. I'd be proud of my a smaller engine running with a larger engine but when you look at other corporations you will realize that Mopar should have done better. Based on 50+ runs that I have seen 4.7 = 5.2 when equipped the same. 4.7 can out run some R/Ts because R/Ts have auto transmissions. 4.7s in stock form will not out run any Mustang 5.0/5sp/3.55. We have the slowest model made in recent years. That would be the '95 model because new body was heavier than earlier models and still had the 5.0. First time at the track was a 14.8. This at a track where I have seen 1 4.7 Dakota run 14.7. Most 4.7/5sp./3.92 will average 15.0
So much bullsh*t - so little fact.

I have some guys out there that want to run me. Including a 5.0 Ranger. I'll let you and Daniel D know when I get it running. I tried the 6.90 and 6.950. One was too short the other too long. So I had to go with a 6.935 pushrod. I seen the same thing at the track with the 4.7 Over in Port Allen. Most of the ones I see out the with 4.7, traction bars,5-speed, flowmaster and air intake run 15.0 to 14.8. I've never seen one run 14.2 or 14.5. Thats all I'm saying.
