Subject: Head porting - stock or H.O.?
IP: Logged

Message:
OK, I have a 2003 4.7 dakota. I'm planning on getting a set of used heads from a junkyard, having them ported and polished, and swapping them in along with some new cams. Is there any reason I should try and find some H.O. heads to port, instead of the stock 4.7 heads? Is there a benefit to a ported H.O. head as opposed to a ported stock head? 'Cause when I price them out, the H.O. heads seem to come up more expensive -- just wondering if they'd be worth the extra $$.

Thanks

Dan Arcand (The Fastman) says that he ported a set of each and they flow equally well. Neither has an advantage. They also have the same size combustion chamber (contrary to some popular opinions about larger chambers) and so you won't lose any compression.

I am actually looking at doing the same thing in a month or so.
