Subject: Jet Chip Installed.... my opinion IP: Logged
Message: Other than a higher rpm while cruising around 40 mph I really can't tell a difference. I own a 4.7 V8 and just put in a Stage 1 Jet chip. It claims better mileage and improved acceleration, but I haven't driven around enought to prove the mileage. But the acceleration actually seems poorer from a 0-60 mph. I still have some regular fuel in the take, so im not sure if that has something to do with it. Any input from Jet chip owners out there? It would be appreciated.

Message: Yeah man, what he said. Should have checked first. I had one on my R/T for a while, biggest waste of money I ever spent. Could not tell a difference at all. Someone on here had some dynos a while back that actually showed a decrease in power on a R/T with the stage II jet chip. Try and get your money back.

Message: Mr. Sleepy, me thinks you been sleep'n too much!
So with the auto, you think it slips it a bit more-hence the higher RPM, around 40, while cruising? Interesting

Message: Well I don't know about the Jet chip, but what I can share input on is the Superchips programmer. Will day one passed on the SUperchips proggrammer, I can honestly say I am happy. The truck seems to have more torque, I am ripping the crap out of the tires, and one of the best features so far, passing! I live in a rural area of Kentucky with alot of 2 lane roads, passing is a must to get anywhere, well at this point I can say my dak passes very well, with alot more seemed power. I have the 6 and from what I read you V8 guys will see more benifits than me. IF your driving a diesal, claims of up to 80 additional HP are listed on the box. Oh and the diagnostic tool is cool as well. I currently have a p0303, misfire in #3 cylinder, something my check engine light hasn't picked up on yet. Just my two cents.

Message: Okay, Day Two of the Jet Chip Stage 1.
Little reminder of what I have, 4.7 Club Cab, Drop in K&N and Gibson Split rear exhaust. Automatic, 4x2.
Let me start by saying I'm very in-tuned with my truck, I drive lots of miles every week, and pay attention to shift points and rpms quite a bit. I noticed that from 70 mph when I put the peddle close to the floor, it no longer downshifts, it just roars to near 4000 rpm and climes up to 85-87 mph before shifting. I am hitting 5600-5800 rpm more often with every push of the gas. It seems to want to hang in there before shifting. I noticed that my exhaust sounds like im running with O/D turned off. I managed to squeel my tires yesterday from a dead stop, now its no big deal but I could never do that on a hot muggy day before. The manual claims that midgrade gas is okay for cruising, but premium is required for stage 2 chip users and for racing stage 1's. I still have half a tank of regular so im going to let this tank dry up and fill it up with some midgrade. I'll run it for a few days, and make a decision then.
My opinion so far is this. The chip actually does something for your engine. Screws with your shifts points, and gives a noticable feel. I didn't feel the difference so much yesterday, but today I could definately tell. It's about 74 outside with light humidity so naturally the engine will run better. I'm still not happy about the bang for the buck because I haven't noticed anything worth $215 yet. Its easier to pass on the freeway since rapid downshifting isn't a issue anymore, and the horsepower, well... dyno day is coming up.

Message: I just uploaded with the Hypertech programmer a couple of days ago and am very pleased with the performance. It seems to take advantage of the mods I've added so far. The low end torque feels much better than stock.

Did you install your rockers, if so how did the install go? Was it a difficult install? Just looking for some tips before I do mine. Thanks

Message: The install was not hard. I suppose for anyone that has experience working on engines and following directions it shouldn't be too difficult. It took about 6 hours for me. I'm sure many others could easily do it much quicker. I suggest the Magnum valve covers for clearance though.
All in all I would rate it an easy installation.
Just take your time, follow directions and don't get rushed.

Thanks for the reply. One more question. Did you replace the springs, pushrods, and put in guide plates because I am, and I heard the springs are a real pita. Were the rockers worth the money for the performance. Thanks

Message: No. Just replaced the rockers.
Now that I have all of the other mods as well. I'd say yes.
It just seems that with all of the mods together the performance seems so much nicer. They all work together to bring out the peak performance of the whole package.
You shouldn't expect an awesome performance gain from just this mod. You should notice it, but it takes more than just the rockers to really make a major difference.
That's just my opinion.

Message: Okay... SO you intsalled a Stage 1 chip, and you havn't noticed much difference, but your on low or mid grade fuel. I have the cough#4cough$cyl*coughcough..
Okay... I have the 20.5L... woah! little error... 2.5L engine and I have flomaster, cold air intake, MSD ign, accel wires, and I just put a 180 degree thermostat. They say that I would get about 18-20 ft lbs of tourque and 10-15 hp gain. Would you imagine that this is possble?

Message: sorry about the double post.
I forgot. Does the chip work in conjunction with the stock computer and make changes to it, or does it work after the computer without changing it at all. Because if it works by reprograming the computer couldn't it take some running time before it makes all of the changes? Should you reset your PCM after install or just let it do the work on top of what is already programmed? And wouldnt it change the stock computer anyways, through the fact that it makes it's changes and the sensors would pick that up and adjust accordingly? Any help would be nice because I dont want to waste money on somthing that wont help me with my obvious lack of power.

Message: **UPDATE**
Roughly 2 weeks after install.
I broke my tires loose from a 14 mph roll. I was slowing down for a light when it turned back to green. I was rolling along about 14 mph and I slammed the pedal about 80% the way down. No downshift but one long squeel. Tires gripped at 25 mph and away I went.
Beat a modified 95 Thunderbird SuperCoupe today, we both slammed at 55mph and by 95mph I was 2 car lengths ahead. Got a thumbs up by the driver and that was that.

I will post the Dyno Results when I get the chance. It might be a bit delayed since my wedding is coming up though.
