Toyota to build Tundras at new factory in Texas

Toyota Motor Corp. will announce today that it is building a plant in San Antonio, Texas, to make the Tundra pickup, which it also produces in Princeton, Ind.
The new plant, which is scheduled to begin production in 2006, will build 150,000 of the full-size pickup trucks a year. Last year, the Princeton plant built 109,000 Tundras.
The San Antonio factory will be an $800 million investment and result in about 200 new jobs, Toyota spokesman Dan Sieger said last night from Texas.
He didn't expect the new plant to have any effect on the operations at Princeton.
The San Antonio factory will be Toyota's sixth in North America.
In addition to the Tundra, Toyota makes the Sienna minivan in Princeton.
In Kentucky, the company makes about 500,000 Camrys a year and a smaller number of Avalons at its plant in Georgetown. Toyota makes vehicles in California and Canada too, and it is building a factory in Mexico that is scheduled to go into operation in 2005.

Just because MB and Chrysler merged doesn't make the Dakota German. Toyota has always been owned by Toyota, and will always be Japanese. Dodge was making the Dak long before the merger, hence it is still an American made vehicle.

My brother-in-law had a Toyota Tundra which he took to a job site once. They took adhesive in a caulk tube and glued the perimeter of both of his doors shut. Toyotas are not welcomed at union job sites not matter how much their ads would lead you believe they are.

There is no excuse for jackass behavior like this by anyone for any reason. Labor union members are no exception. As far as I am concerned, they should be looking to behave beter than others due to the poor reputation they already have.

Good 1 Scott... my neighbor has a white tundra... mine as well park the the darn thing slower then my petal bike he topped it out at 85 b4 the chip kciked in... mines a 99 dakota club cab sport chips kicked in at 115mph.. all stock... 3.9L V6... KJ

I also drive past a GM plant each morning and see Toyotas and Hondas parked in the furthest lot that is marked for imports. Say what you will, but they are parking there for a reason. The Ford Engine plant and now defunct LTV plant had similar parking spots. If it was not a GM, Chrysler, or Ford, you did not dare park in the main lot.

Last year, two guys brought their foreign cars into the parking lot while attending a union meeting at my local. The board wouldn't start the meeting until the guys got up (in front of everyone) and moved their cars from the lot to the street. Pretty embarrassing - glad I own a domestic truck, no matter the brand.

Dude personally i dont care what someone wants to spend THEIR OWN money on. but if someone sealed my doors with slilcone I would basically slash all the tires in that parking lot at one time or another. and for the union reps who wouldnt start the meeting cause one of their members drove a foreign car is nothing more than childish. but what do you expect from unions
