Subject: 4.7 liter, 5-speed swap IP: Logged
Message: I recently purchased a 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport with the anemic 4-cylinder engine. Since the big Dodge trucks are equipped with the 4.7 liter V-8 and manual transmission, I was wondering if that engine / transmission combination would fit in the Dakota? Has anyone performed the swap?
I know the Dakotas come with larger V-8s, but those aren't equipped with manual transmissions. I figured finding a wrecked Ram with all the components available (drivetrain and electronics)would make this a relatively simple swap.
Any ideas? (I tried searching the archives on this site, but my modem-based Internet service "times-out" on me...)
Thanks!

Message: You can get 4.7's with a manual from the factory, and the previous 5.2 engine could also be optioned with a manual. But if you wanted to do a swap, I would think it would be one of the more simpler swaps, since the tranny and engine can bolt directly up (4.7 & 5.2 to a manual).
