Message: No low cost engine upgrades will help you that much. If you're already going to be doing an engine swap I'd just keep pressing forward with that. I'm usually one for telling people to go ahead and try modding out their 4cyl's but in your case I'd say put the money into the swap.
BUT...you could start investing money into the suspension of your dak to prepare it for the swap. Things such as a stouter rear end, limited slip or powertrax locker, better shocks, springs, traction bars, maybe some weight reduction, re-enforce the frame (though I doubt its needed). Upgrade your brakes as well. Look into a rear disk conversion. This is kinda pricey but if you're going to go real fast you need the stopping power. Plus, disks weigh less than drums.

Message: Hey thanks CThomp..I guess i'll just save up...On the front end, should I beef up the springs for the heavier engine or will the stock ones be alright? I'm pretty close to touchin on the front tires when the wheels are cranked.

Message: A swap to a 380 probably won't cost any more than a 318 swap. The motors are the same price at the junk yard. You will have to pull from a Ram though.

Message: yeah, i really thought about that, but how much more will it cost for the prep work and will i have to move anything around in the engine compartment to make it fit?

Message: Good investment would be exhaust, rear gear maybe, and suspension upgrades. Check the forum for some used V8 springs and sway bars. Save the rest of you money for the swap and you may be able to do a little more for the V8. Good luck.
