Subject: KenneBell or Powerdyne? IP: Logged
Message: I thought I wanted a PD supercharger for my 2000 RT, but after some research the KenneBell looks pretty good. Can you guys give me some pros and cons of each unit? I was thinking of running the water/alchohol injection with 8-9 lbs boost with the KB unit.

Message: The Kenne Bell will make the most low end torque and you have full boost off idle. Nothing beats it on a stock motor during your stop light to light drags. The only dissadvantage with the KB's is that they are tuned for a stock engine and mods will mess up everything and there is not a provision to adjust for the mods. If you plan other mods like, cam, heads, manifold ect, go with a ProCharger, Paxton, Powerdyne. They will allow you to tune for mods. If you stick with the KB you will need a $2500 aftermarket computer to make it work right. My KB's is now putting out close to 500 rwhp and well over 600 ftlbstq, but it has required an aftermarket computer and fuel system to acheive this.

Message: I'm curious, what kind of aftermarket computer system did you go with? The F.A.S.T. system?

Message: How does it interface with the KB setup? Do you plug into the stock pcm and the optimizer or just the stock pcm?

Message: It interfaces with the stock PCM, In fact I have an extra optomizer if anyone woud like to make an offer. The stock PCM controlls everything, but the fuel and timing which the FAST and my laptop now have full control of.

Message: So you removed the optimizer? The FAST controls the aux injectors as well? Was it difficult to hook up? Sorry about all the questions, but I've never heard from anyone who used the FAST with a KB.

Message: It was not difficult to hook up. A company called Fasttrack Performance makes an interface box for the Dakota's & Ram's. You just plug the factory PCM and the FAST both into the same Fasttrack adapter. With the ability to use up to eight 160lb injectors, you no longer need to run aux injectors. I chose 72lb injectors on mine as they will feed up to 1000hp.

Message: Last question-- are you still using the stock MAP sensor and the MAF sensor that came with the s/c kit? Thanks for the info.

Message: I am still using a MAP sensor in the stock location, but it has been changed to a 2 bar sensor which senses boost. I am using the one for a GM Syclone. The Magnum engines do not use MAF sensors as they are Speed Density systems.

Message: Sleeper,
That was exactly the info I was looking for. I want to run the SC with a stock setup for a while, but go for some more mods eventually.
How long did you run the setup with a stock motor and the KB optomizer? Do you have any times with just that setup? How about alcohol/water injection? Ever tried it? One last question. I assume I can run headers without a problem with the optomizer?

Message: You can run headers with the optomizer just fine. With just taht setup I ran mid to upper 14's, but that is in a club cab 4wd Ram with 35" off road tires. I ran into trouble when I installed a larger cam, started running the blower 300% over driven and a large air to air cooler. My present cam is a 232-232 @.050 with .556-.556 loft ground on a 110 and installed at 107 degrees. The supercharger is 310% overdriven and runs everything through an 1100 cfm 3-row aftercooler. My compression ratio is 7.5-1 and I'm running Fastman RT heads, M-1 2b and a F&B 58mm TB. I'n just installing some of the new GS Motorsports RT headers 1 3/4 x 3" and have a full dual 3" exhaust.

Message: Wow Sleeper, that quite some combo. I'm running very low 15's box stock so I would hope that with the KB SC and headers I could at least run 13's. What do you think?
