Message: I just put on my mbrp cuda style exhaust on my 2002 reg cab dakota r/t and it sounds pretty good but i want a more aggressive sound. does adding an cold air intake like a K&N fipk add to the sound of the exhaust or does something else have to be done, like taking off the cats or whatever, i dont really want to do that but would just rather do an intake and some headers if that makes a difference thanks

Message: Nothing....I mean NOTHING....beats the sound you get from a 5.2/5.9V-8 w/duals and NO mufflers. That has to be my favorite sound in the world. No, wait, second favorite. First would be popping the top on a Bud Light after work.

Message: You have 3 cats like me :( it sucks i dont think there is much more to do to get it any louder. It may get a little louder if you get a high flow cat to replace the main one. the other 2 pre cats lower the sound though. pisses me off. my 98 5.2L ram was loud as hell and could set off alarms. it had one cat :(

Message: I know most of you are familiar with flowmaster mufflers. 3 days after I bought the qc 4.7 5spd, I ordered a 40 series 2 chamber flowmaster(non-delta flow type) and put on a 3" o.d. x 8" long stainless tip all from summitt racing. It sounded much better but still not muscle car cool sounding. After some thought, I removed the 3rd cat and installed a straight 2.5" pipe with flanges so i could remove and install the cat with flanges for smog. It's hard to believe that just removing that cat made that big a difference but it sounds pretty tuff now. real fat and rumbly (especially when I down shift and the windows are down) --For a deeper, more rumbly sound, I was thinking of running dual 3" out of the flowmaster to 4" tips.
Oh yeah, I haven't heard a spintech muffler on a dakota, but those mufflers sound bitchin'and really flow. I think the web site is spintechmufflers.com. If I were putting on a new muffler, I would probably go spintech because they sound great and they're different. You can also listen to some of the customer cars on the site. Just my two cents. Hope it helps. Micah Radnich

Message: Headers typically always help as a power adder. Just a few things to consider: cost to power gain ratio-get them in coated or stainless so they don't rust or fade & with thick flanges(where the header mounts to the head; the thicker the flanges the less likely they are to warp when things get hot)- I don't know if anyone makes them for the daks, but equal length headers are really the best. This is where the primary tubes are the same length so that each cylinder has equal performance gains before merging into the collector- they do add to a more aggressive exhaust note. My buddy put an fipk k&n on his r/t and it didn't really add an aggressive sound. I'm sure it at least gets better mileage and has more power, but all you can really hear is a whistling noise. I have a 4.7 5spd and when i take the intake off and run just the throttle body, it sounds totally loud and fat. Put it all back on and you can't even hear it "breathing". I guess different engines respond differently. Hope some of this helps.
