Message: Hi Tony,
When you put a bigger Throttle Body on your V6 you won't have to switch to premium. As for the computer, all you will have to do is disconnect the negative battery terminal and switch the key to the "on" position for about 15-30 seconds, then reconnect your battery. Give the computer about 100 miles to fully adapt to your new throttle body. As for power gains, I would expect 10-20 hp's, I myself installed a Flometrics 48mm Throttle Body on my V6. I highly recomend this throttle body. you can find them on the speedtweaks site.

Message: 10 to 20 hp from a TB on a V6??? I think your way off on that one. I hope to get that on my V8 from a full Cat back and cold air intake. Perahps with these mod's also or at least combined with cold air you will get 20hp but not from a TB alone.
Just my opinion but I sure others will have their's.

Message: More like 8-10hp's at the wheels, I'm sure Bernd will add to this post. It really woke up my 94 V6 though, well worth it. I was talking about at the crank, not the rear wheels on the 10-20hp's.

Message: Hey Kris
What made you choose the 48mm Flowmetrics over a stock V8 50mm or the fastman bored stock v6? This will be my next mod but I am indecisive.

Stock V6 TB = 42-44mm
Fastman V6 TB = 46mm (aka: QuickD)
Stock V8 TB = 48mm (not 50mm)
Flometrics Billet V6 TB = 48mm (works much better than the stock piece though)
As for the HP gains at the rear wheels, the TB along with a decent Cold Air system will gain you about 10-15RWHP max. But...the driveability and performance is much better.

Message: Will the modified TBs pass my state's emission testing? I'd like to go with the Flowmetics unit, but I'm leaning towards the reworked stock TBs to avoid potential problems at inspection time (even if it passes the sniff test, they may squawk if they see something other than OEM under there). Anybody using the Hughes modified TBs?

Visually, yes. Is it CARB or 50-State Legal? No.
I haven't heard of any problems with the emissions test with the modified TB failing the test...yet.

Message: Dan, what made me get the Flometrics over the stock V8? Well, I've heard stories of the blades hitting the intake manifold and ones about different linkages. The Flometrics group buy came out in December, just when I was looking for a different throttle body. I was really impressed with the Flometrics TB's over any other TB's. The Flometrics just seemed like the right choice for me.

Message: The Flometrics is new. A rewoked stock, however pretty it may be, can still have 200,000 miles on it. Something to think about!

Message: Yeah, that's another thing that changed my mind. I didn't want to do a core exchange. Who knows how many miles is on the "modified" TB's. So I took the pretty chunk of billet aluminum instead.

Message: The F&B TBs made prior to the billet ones were NOT all based on used cores. They started using brand new cores not long after they started in business. Mine is a mid-2000 vintage modified stock unit ( brand new ), and I've been real happy with it over the past year. It isn't as pretty as the billets, but then I won't have any trouble from the IM inspectors either! That shiney billet TB is a dead giveaway...... :)

Message: I know the Flowmetics TB isn't CARB approved, but I'm leaning towards going that route. I figure if the modified Oem TB doesn't pass the sniffer, I'd be toast since the stock TB would be gone due to the core exchange. If I go with the Flowmetrics unit, at least I could re-install the stock TB when necessary. I'd probably make the swap prior to inspection time just to be on the safe side, but any chance the Flowmetrics unit would pass the sniffer? Anyone pass the sniffer with one? I figure there's probably a lot of gear out there that could pass muster, but it just hasn't gone through the "official" tests. For instance, I see a lot of the Cold Air kits that aren't CARB approved, but I can't believe that there's that much of difference from an emission standpoint between some of these units (beside the fact that the CARB approved unit went through the tests). TIA..

Message: Ok, here's another question for you guys who have a clue on this stuff (as opposed to me). Finally saved up my pennies and am about to install the R/T Performance "package" (CAM, Headers, Exhaust, PCM), the R/T rocker arm kit, and Randy's M1 MPI setup on my '99 5.2 4X4. Last piece is the TB. I've ordered a Super Street from Jules, but I'm looking a month delivery time (sucks). Then I keep reading Bernd's recommendations (and looked around Speedtweaks) and I'm now wondering, with all of these mods, should I be looking at the 52mm Flowmetrics instead? Help. Please. This is a huge investment for me, and I'd like ot get it right.
