Subject: Raced A Lightning With My R/T And.......

Message:
Well my friend just bought a new lightning and well... yes they are fast We raced the other night but first, I have a 99 Regular Cab R/T with Mopar Headers, Mopar Cold Air Intake, Mopar PCM, Kenne Belle Wires, MBRP Exhaust W/Flowmaster 40 Series, I figure I am around 300 HP?? I live in the country so this wasnt dangerous at all so nobody tell me i'm and idiot for racing on the street. Anyway we lined up and took off and I was suprised to keep up to him until about 60 MPH even spinning my stock RSA's to shi!, and then he started pulling and when I looked down at my speedo I was doing 95 MPH and by then he was at most 8-9 cars ahead of me its hard to tell but it wasn't that bad. I guess I want to know roughly what the best mods for me to beat him would be I figure $4000 should do it?? I noticed the Lightning killer package by KRC is $4000 but is it better than a S-charger?? I also can get a good deal on 100 shot NOS, would that knock off a full second of 1/4 mile?? I know I have to spend a few bucks but I will still have less invested than him and I like the look of my truck better, I know it sounds stupid to spend all this money to say I can beat him but its just nice to know. Also what do I run 1/4 mile right now Roughly?? And what mods do I need to be low 13's. Well Everyone what do you think???

the rt with the beer barrel intake and stock throttle body isnt as strong on the top end as the m1 2bbl intake/50-52mm tb combo.

from there you need to choose your path..

245 hp at the wheels is probably about right.

Lightning Killer Package is a good deal...don't have to worry about how much boost to run or not to run or u don't have to worry about taking out timing and u don't have to worry about blowing your head gaskets.

If he is a stock Lightning you will hang w/ if not pull him slightly. Add the 100 shot to the package and he can kiss your @ss goodbye.

N20 is the cheap & effective. Put a 100 shot on your motor and I think you got em. 6-700 bux and an afternoon of plumbing lines will set you up nice. Be careful , N20 can ruin your engine if its used improperly.

Or your can open up the breathing of your engine with some bolt on stuff. Looks like you could use :

a 50 or 52 mm throttle body
M1 2 barrel intake
1.7 roller rockers
2400 or 2800 stall converter
electric cooling fan
4.56 gears ( I hear this is a good one )

Lotta guys running the above combo and have great results with it. And its computer friendly. You can get into big heads and cam combos but your talking serious labor and some tuning issues. Same with a supercharger , they work great but need something to tune it with and blown headgaskets are not uncommon.

You got some good mods already , and if you got 4K to burn there are many ways to go. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. The delfi national message board is a great place for advice. Check out www.dragtruk.com too and see what some R/Ts are running with what mods.

Hope this helps. Good luck !

All the mods you do are fine, but what happens when he spends $500 on a pully, chip and filter? I know of a 02 Harley (was bought for 29k new)that did that and ran a best of 13.3, so a Lightning should be in the deep 12s with the same mods. Man that Harley is nice! Even with 10k in a dak, it's hard to get a dak that nice, after all, it would still be a compact dak.

first of all you didnt keep up with him through 60 mph because my buddy has a 94 dak that has a stock 360 engine and pretty much everything you have on yours plus a paxton supercharger and he barely keeps up with them in the 1/8 of a mile track in kennedale so your slightly modified 360 with no sc could not keep up.

I have a rc RT with flowmaster and air intake and raced an 02 all stock lightning in the 1000 feet and he ran a 11.92 and i got an 12.28. So with those mods he shoudl be able to keep up with one. There are a lot of lightings around here and 11.8 is the fastest I have ever seen a stock lightning run in the 1000.
