Subject: R/T Intake?

Message:
I have some cash laying around, looking to throw some cold air on as my first R/T Mod. I have a '99 CC Dakota R/T, what is the top notch intake for the 5.9's? I was checking out Volant but their Dakota intakes only go on the 5.2 Liters, no 5.9? Also, is it worth painting my stock grill silver to match the R/T alloy wheels or does the stock grill look bad painted? Thanks guys appreciate it.

ANY intake for the 5.2 will work for the 5.9, especially for your 99. dont have to worry about the cruise control cables or anything.

most people including myself like the k/n fipk. a little pricey at $230+

there are so many intake choices its really just up to what you personally think

Craig, I have the K&N Cold Air intake and I love it. Definately tell a difference in performance. Also, don't paint your current grill silver unless you want it to look dumb. Get the Street Scene speed grill. I have it and it looks really good. Or, you could get some mesh and make a grill and it iwll still look damn good

Thanks Matt, The used dealership key slip says my truck is a '99, but it has cruis control, did the 99's have cruise control or must my truck be a 2000?

R/T, you may want to look at the end of your driver's side door, where it has the build tag. If the date is in late '98 to mid '99, you have a '99 R/T. One other note...cruise control is an option, it's not year-specific. Yep.

Also, the others are right about the intakes. The 318 (5.2l) and the 360 (5.9l) have the same block and share many characteristics. Just about anything that fits on one, you can fit on the other.

I have a 99 R/T, loaded, including cruse. When I bought mine (used, from a dealer) they had another 99 stripped, I mean stripped, no power windows, locks, no cruse, no nothing, but it was an R/T, so I guess they come just like any other Dakota, ART

Well I just ordered the FIPK K&N Performance intake for my R/T, I found out my truck is infact a 99 just the buyer got the cruise control option. Do the second generation (00-02) FIPK intakes fit 99's or must i get the 97-99 generation intake? is there a differance...the 00-02 better?

The difference in the 99 verses the 2000 kit is the hardware to relocate the cruise control diaphragm. The 99 Daks have the diaphragm located on the firewall and do not pose a problem for the FIPK kit installation. The 2000 models have the cruise control diaphragm mounted on the fenderwell and need to be relocated for the kit's installation. The diaphragm relocation hardware is the only difference in the kits.
