I have a 1997 Dakota Reg. Cab with a 3.9L V6 in it. I'm about to buy some ignition parts for it and I would like some advice. This is what I was going to get:

MSD 6A
MSD Blaster SS Coil
Universal Wireing Harness
MSD Super Conductor Wires

Borg Warner Cap & Rotor

Autolite 3923 Plugs (gapped at .045?)

But where to mount the MSD 6A and the Blaster Coil??? I have heard over near the intake (passenger fender), but what happens when I have to take the Airaid intake off for smog and put on the old stock airbox? Will the MSD ignition and coil still fit behind the stock airbox or not?

I have the 6AL mounted on the passenger side just under the PCM. I've seen alot of posts with them mounted on the driver side near the battery, but I couldnt get mine to fit there. The passenger side is more level than the driver side, at least on my '93. Mounted the coil on the firewall. I still have my plugs gapped at .045. Runs great, so didnt bother trying .050. Seems like you would have all kinds of room with the V6, any place would work.

OH yea, forgot to tell you, I have a '98 with the MSD system and that is where I mounted mine Intense99dak has his. Easy mounting and near the coil. I program machines for a sheetmetal shop so I made a mounting plate for my BlasterSS coil in the original spot. All you would have to do is drill holes in a plate and mount it.
