Subject: 70 or 72 mm TB for 4.7? IP: Logged
Message: Okay...so I went to the F&B site...and they sound like they're makin' a pretty good product...I've had a few folks reccomend the 70mm...why not the 72? Is it too big for a street truck - too expensive? What's the deal?

Message: Funny I was watching HP tv this weekend they did a TB, exhuast and intake and dyno after each mod they got 2 HP outs the new TB, 8Hp from exhaust and 8 hp from intake, My opinion is a bigger TB for the 4.7 is a big waste of $.

Message: Yes it was an impala, but anyone that has done any kind of reading on these boards has read time after time very litlle to no gains going from 68mm 4.7 to 70 or 72 if there were any gains they were in top end, if you dont care about spending $400+ for 5 hp then more power to you.

Message: the 72mm is primarily for SC or Turbo applications. You'd suffer too much low end loss from my experiences.
The 70mm works well on NA 4.7s, semi-stock, modified (HO cams, etc.)
I carry them all-- but that's my recommendation (the 70mm).

Message: TB changes by themselves will not do that much. That goes for any single mod in the entire world (short of N2O, turbo, or S/C applications). you have to do them in the appropriate steps to get the gains you're supposed to get. More ability to flow air into the engine is useless w/out the ability to flow more air out of said engine...

Message: franlofter...I don't no what posts you've looked at but personally when installed a measly "true" 68mm tb from the fastman the performance increase was not only noticeable but dramatic, if the damn pedal vibration wasnt so violent I would still have it on...in fact the performance increase was so incredible I'm thinking about trying out another tb hoping and praying the pedal vibe doesnt return

Message: Hey Sam, I've been thinking about ordering a 72mm TB from you for a while. What do you think about a 72mm on my truck? Mods are listed below + 4.56 rear end.
My planned mods are:
KRC cams (later this year)
JBA Headers + true dual 2.5" dumped (probably next month)
I would like KRC's high comp piston upgrade, but that one hurts. Has anyone had any experience with them yet?
