Message: I just took a 2500 mile trip from Palm Beach to Kentucky, the truck ran awesome up there, passing everybody up the mountain at 100+. Nice power band between 70-100. Anyway I think I got some bad gas in GA on the way home. Started losing my power band, then lost most power and accelaration. Now whistling like a vacum leak. Thought at first was fuel filter, then vacum leak., Now catalytic converter....?I think thats where the sounds from, & exhaust at tailpipe is weak when revved & NO engine Light!
Trans fluid fine. 99 5.2l 44,000 miles, auto, fipk2 & Flowmaster.

Message: "Now whistling like a vacum leak" - might be a exhaust leak around the manifold. truck won't idle with much of a vacum leak.
"Thought at first was fuel filter" - not likley its in the gas tank.
"Now catalytic converter....?" doubt it
But most likley you have a blown bellypan gasket ;(

Message: Blown belly Pan Gasket? Wouldn't it leak oil? The engine seems fine, just doesn't sound the same ie exhaust. When you floor it it would drop down, then there was no power so it then shifted back up. Happened instantly after gas from sh@tty station in GA cause the wife had to poop. Just gotten worse. I heard bad gas poisons the cat and clogs the honeycomb, not letting the exhaust out stoppin power.???

Message: If I knew for sure what was wrong I wouldn't post. I was hoping someone has seen this or knows about it. I'm just guessing. Also the truck used to rumble in the exhaust when you let off the pedal after accelerating, now I hear a rattle which is coming from the cat back. Still can't tell where the whistle is coming from but it is a blowing whistle not a sucking sound and very high pitched. I even thought this might be a problem whit other trucks that claim they don't have a lot of power, but mine went in about six hours of driving. Hope someone knows about this & I understand the cat must be warrantied for 50,000 miles?

Message: Yup, I'm convinced it's a clooged cat. The honeycomb has been poisoned and is breaking apart, clogging itself, forcing air out somewhere else and whistling. here's a link that says it all if any one else has the same problem with loss of power and bogging down. http://www.thepartsbin.com/catalytic_converters.html

Message: It could very well be a CAT. They really choke the engine when the time comes. Pull out the oxygen sensor ahead of the cat, and see if the power comes back. It'll be loud, of course, but it's easy to do.
