Subject: AIM Lowering???
IP: Logged

Message:
I talked to AIM about a 3-5 drop for my 2000 4.7 extra cab. They quoted me 305 for shocks springs and rear hangers and 505 for shocks control arms and rear hangers. Are these good prices? Is this a good drop? Is it worth the extra 200 for a control arm drop in the front compared to spring? Any help would be appreciated!!!!!
Thanks,
Brian

Yeah, those are excellent prices. But I wouldn't buy them. The stuff that AIM makes is horrible and I wouldn't trust it. If you want to lower it, use either DJM, Hotchkis, or Bell Tech. It is going to cost more but they are far better quality.

So far the best kit I have seen is from Hotckis for the money! That is what I am going to go with. Look in the new SPORT TRUCK they have a install write up on it! Awesome they are starting to do install write ups for our trucks!!!!!

i went with the western chassis 4/6 kit and it rides like stock. i have heard the hotckis kit rides kinda rough because the use of de-arced leaf springs in the rear. its also more money than the western chassis kit.

I used the Western Chassis on my 92 v-6. It was a 2/3 drop with spindles up front and spring hangers for the rear. They have since gone to a lowered control arm set-up and they don't sell the spindle for 1997 and newer trucks, but I bet you could call and talk to someone in tech to see if the older spindles will work. The suspension on the new Dakotas has ahrldy changed from the 1991-1996 models. The Western Kit really did ride like stock and it was cheap. I didn't even have to change out my front shocks (which were already KYB's, btw). Now that i have my 2000, I am not sure I will lower it, since it was a pain in the ass last time, but we'll see.

I've heard alot caution when dealing with AIM. I've never heard anybody say "AIM is awesome, I had a spectacular experience there!" Responses that I've hear is more like average to bad. I've been researching this quite a bit; I'm going to do this soon to my '01 QuadCab, 2WV6. Here is my finding. If you love the ride of your stock Dakota, go with western's front control arms and rear hangers (2/4 drop). It's a mild drop with your stock springs. Also stock alignment is a slam dunk. If you don't mind a stiffer ride, go with Hotchkis springs (2/3 drop). I've heard one alignment complaint, but I think it's good product with a reputation. I haven't decided which way I'm going yet. That's my 2 cents!
