I've done quite a bit of research, but still cannot seem to find a good answer. Maybe someone can help me out.

Here's what I have installed.
50mm TB
FIPK
JBA and full exhaust
180 T-stat
3.73 gears

Now, I want those 2.02 heads and a few other goodies, besides MSD, 24lb FI, M1, etc., but those are for future purchase.

I want to get a good cam for the occational offroading (minor trails, nothing big) and twice a year trailering. The rest of the time I drive to and from work and track time. So, overall a well balanced use.

The 1.7rr's are already purchased, do I sitck with the stock cam (318). Or get on of the following

KRC210
210/220 512/512 @0.50"/1.6 ratio
KRC220
220/230 507/507 @0.50"/1.6 ratio

With the 1.7 I was thinking it'll push the lift to approx. 545/545 KRC210 and 540/540 KRC220. I was thinking the KRC220, less lift, but more duration, and the lift will be more than made up for with the 1.7's. Will the 1.7's and either of those cams have issues with piston clearance?Which cam do you guys recommend?

What type of truck do you have (CC, RC, QC)? From what you posted, 318, 4x4 but is it a stick or auto? You say you trailer twice a year I assume its a boat, How large is it? It is also important know how large of a tire are you running, or will be running? Do you need to pass emissions where you live because a lot of the guys that run large cams don't? I do think that the 220 cam is too large for a 4 wheeler/daily driver. The 210 cam I think would be OK ( upper limits) for a manual, CC, 4x4.

More than likely you want the cam to be controlling all of the duration and lift. Get a custom cam for your truck and stick with the 1.6's.

I always forget to include some kinda info when I ask questions.

I have a 97 CC 4x4 auto. Right now I have 31's, and plan on sticking with that, no lift or fat tire mods.

If the 220 gives me a very lopey idle, then that is fine with me, I was mostly looking at that one for the shorter lift (made up for with the 1.7). The 1.6's are still stock, if someone wants to possibly trade me the 1.7's for the 1.6's then I might consider it.

The trailers are in the 1-2k range and pulled 250mi. round trip, they're different but both are small camping type.

I run a custom cam grind from Crower-- In the 510-512 range based on the Crower 1.7 ratio rockers-- Short duration (under 210)-- that along with 1.92 RT heads (non ported, just out of the box)-- Netted me 34 peak rwhp, and 20 peak rw tq. If you have the stock BB intake, or a 2bbl intake the peak hp may be a little lower, but the tq will at leat 10 ft. lbs. higher.

Very nice idle-- On a 318 expect similar, yet lower results.

I have a few of these out now (on 5.9L and 3.9L)

If your building a race truck and are able to spend $6,000 on the setup then go for it. You will need new rod (HD forged or billet) to be able to rev high enough with any reliabilty in a 318. You'll need about 11:1 pistons and speed-pro fuel system to control that monster on the street. You'll also need 4.56 gears to make up for the missing low-end torque.

Your best bet would be to give the cam makers or krc a call to get the best cam for your combo.

I've got the KRC 206X in my 97 4x2 R/C 318 and it has a little "quiver" at idle but not too bad. From 2800 up it really rocks and torque down low does not seem any different than stock. I've got headers, 1.92 ported heads, M-1 with e/large turtle and F/M 50MM TB. Better be careful with anything larger than this in the 318 especially with the heavy 4x4 or you may loose too much low end.
My 2cents.......

Red97Kota, are you running the stock PCM? What about any check engine lights? Thanks.

Yes, I am running the stock PCM. No check engine lites as of yet. It took a few weeks for the PCM to adapt to the new cam but it runs and idles much better now. I am going to get the PCM flashed as soon as I can afford it. The motor wants more RPM!! It really strokes it from 2800 up....I love the sound of this cam, not too big, not too small, just right!!! You probably should go a little bigger if you are running the 360 but this one seems perfect for the 318.

Thanks a bunch, I never really looked at that cam till no, and I was also looking at the 216. Possibly little better choice for the offroad in 318's.

ERRRR CHOICES!!!!
