Subject: What's wrrong with my R/T? its slow! IP: Logged
Message: Alright, i saw on another post those someone's R/T was slow. Well, i think mine is also. I'm not sure why but it is. I have a 1999 Dakota R/T CC.I have a K&N cold air intake, Autolight spark plugs, and flowmaster 40 series. it gets tuned up all the time! i've got it tuned up 3 times in 8 month with only 8k miles put on it.
I've taken real good care of it but its slow. i raced another 99 R/T RG and i was smoking him until 60-70 mph and he flew by and passed me. why is that? my buddy has a 4.7 Dakota SLT QC and i think he might beat me in a race.
do i have the "death flash"? should i reset my PCM??? what can i do??? help me please. thanks,
-Matt

Message: I had the same problem. I was pissed off at the performance. Your K&N prolly gave you an extra 7-10 HP , the plugs dont do much , and the muffler prolly doesnt do much either except for sound.
The R/T engine has no breathing above 4000 rpm. Thats why you are "slow"
I would suggest a 180* thermostat , 50 or 52 mm throttle body , a set of headers , a MP PCM and an M1 2brl. You could do them in that order if you dont have alot of $$$.
That WILL wake up your engine.
Theres always N20 also.
Be patient and happy modding !

Message: If you don't have an M1 manifold check for a plenum gasket leaking. It kills performance slowly till it sucks in a big area. Good luck.

Message: There's a slow Dakota R/T club out there, but I think it has a long waiting list to get in. Put hard tires on it and smoke the tires off the line..Makes people think it's fast. Then if you loose you can blame it on traction. A couple stickers and loud mufflers help too.

Message: i have a 99 ccab too. used to think mine was one of the slower runts of the litter, then spent a little (and i mean little) cash and got her to put up some decent numbers for the money i spent. spent $40 on cutouts, 280 on a pcm, and 60 for a dremel (for the throttle body). and $25 on an edelbrock pro-flo air cleaner. took me from a 15.3 to a 14.6
the power is in there, just gotta finesse her a bit to get it out.

Message:
While scanning through the auto trans section of a factory service manual I came across a how to stall test a converter, anyway in the test analysis two results recommend converter replacement.
1. Low stall speed (the vehicle exhibits poor acceleration but operates normally once cruise speeds are reached.)
2. Stall speed normal but acceleration poor (abnormal throttle opening is required for acceleration, or to maintain cruise speed.)
This may or may not have anything to do with your problems, just a thought!
