Subject: Air Intake system (Help!)
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 98 V6 3.9 Dakota. I am interested in getting an air intake system and was wondering what is a good one to get. I have seen a few on different web sites and was wondering what is the difference and the best? I have seen the K&N, the intense performance stage II, the Z-tube and the stage III with the filter canister. Wouldn't the canister be much like the factory air box? Appreciate any advise you can give.

I would just stick with what is proven and with what works. I would install a K&N filter, but make sure you aren't just replacing the lame stock filter inside a lame stock air box. I would go with an "open air element" that draws air in from 360 degrees all around. The more cooler air you can draw in, the better. After that, consider upgrading your exhaust system.

K&N Gen-II system is the best for the V6/V8 (3.9/5.2/5.9L). The "Z-Tube" is specifically for the 4.7L.

Some modifications are required for the V6 adaptation as the cruise control cable can get in the way.

On the exhaust, you have two options:

(1) Replace the factory muffler with an aftermarket muffler (Dynomax, Flowmaster, etc.) - 2.5" IN/OUT (Single)

(2) We're still holding the group buy for the Gibson exhaust systems - $260 (Or you can pick any other cat-back system of your choice but we only are running the price on the Gibson kit.)
