Subject: my r/t is slow IP: Logged
Message: what is wrong with my r/t . i have a 2001 cc k&n fipk and flowmaster 40 series and 3923 autolites and i cant do any better than a 10.3 in the 1/8 mile and thats with no tire spin, hell my r/t will hardly even spin the tires, if i stand on it from a stop ill spin like 5 feet maybe 10 on good pavement , yeah i can smoke them on that cheap bumpy country road pavement but i should be able to totally smoke my tires with all this torque im supposed to have . 345 ft lbs of torque should do more than this. it only has 34000 miles and runs fine but it is so slow. dont get me wrong i like my r/t but im sick of just barely beating full size chevys and sometimes getting beat by them. please help what is wrong with this rag?

Tons of good info for R/T owners.
A 10.3 1/8th mile time converts to about a 16.0 1/4 mile. Considering you have very few mods, that's not too terribly off normal times. A little slow, but only about .5 sec off normal stock CC times.
Can you elaborate more about you track visit? How was the weather? Hot/humid? Cold? What elevation? Location (City and/or tack name). What were your 60' times?
Since you mentioned not being able to spin the tires, you may have "torque management" on your truck. My friend has a 2001 and the tq mgmt did that to him too. He got the B&G Flash and no longer has that feature. Now his is "traction challenged" pretty bad! LOL!!

im not sure of the elevation but i know i live at about 800 ft and i dont remeber going up any mountains up there so id say under 1000 ft but im not totally sure. it was not to hot out but it may have been a little humid. when the last yellow light lit up i stomped it to the floor it was hard to tell if i spun due to noise from the other car and the helmet but im pretty sure i didnt and my friend watching told me he didnt think i spun either.as for the death flash im not sure . i do have a sticker on my computer that says authorized sofware update ,something like that. what would take off that torque manegment thing if i have it ?

Message: Sounds almost right for a stock CC R/T. Should be a 10.1-9.9 or so at about 70 mph. The weather could skew those #'s a bit. Perhaps you do have the "Death Flash". Retarded timing can really kill you getting out the hole and tryinging to get that heavy beeotch moving. Time to get that new SuperChips programer that was released on Friday. Part# 3715 for "Dakota/ Durango", and nor Ram. Same part #, but if it doesn't say "Dakota/Durango" on the box, then it's the old program.

No on the tq management thing, but from what I've been told it gets too much credit for causing trouble. It is to my understanding that it only pulls timing for a split second between shifts to lessen the shock on the trans.

my fuel pump went out, had the f'ing dealer replace it (why i did that i dont know), they replaced the cat as well, still under warranty. my question being, do they have to tell you if they 'death flash' your truck? mine has been a pig off the line for awhile, roughly since the fuel pump problem, and i dont know why. i have had the fastman top end package on for about 1 week, and its still not acting like a 13 second truck.

That might make ur trucks kinda fast. I've got 25 extra crate blocks complete from pan to TB with this setup that I will give away, just let me kno if ne one wants one. Just found out today that the truck I thought was BRAND NEW, turns out it must of been in an acident while on the lot because the door drivers side door has been repainted before I bought it. Message: Hey numbnuts(yeah you Ryan). If you have a problem with your truck then take that up with the right people; there's these neat things called lemon laws you should look into, D.A. Don't come to a forum and trash a good line of trucks. For your info; my brother has a 1/2 ton HEMI( his third Dodge since, never had a proplem with any of them) and I have 01 RC R/T Dak with a 3' 50series and a K&N FIPK. I run 15.32 @89.4 in the 1/4 with with damn near no traction(street tires) and on the street my list of victims includes your precious SS Silverado and even a Lightning that wanted to play on the Ortega Hwy from Elsinore to Dana Point. Lightnings are fast in a straight line but God forbid you put them into situation where the driver acctually needs to do some real driving and put some thought into what they're doing. Now that I think of it; that's a good idea for you. Before you speak; run what you want to say by one of your peizos so they can make sure it's not stupid.

| HEY F150; watch out for that turn IP: Logged
Message: OK; Lightnings are fast: in a straight line. Last time I was home on leave before my R/T came to Alaksa. I was screwing around with a friend of a friend that has a Lightning. I really wanted to beat the piss out of him for being a cocky civilian punk(I'm a paratrooper; I'm allowed to be a cocky, arrogant prick). We all decided to go to Dana Point. The only way to get there from Lake Elsinore is CA HWY 78, the Ortega Hwy. To say that the Ortega has some turns is to say that Jenna Jamason has been with a few guys. It's about 25 miles of road that they make BMW ads about. Think Watkins Glenn in the SoCal hills. We agree to see who can do the run quicker. He was only a car length ahead for the first mile and then the twisties started to come. I pass him on the outside(gaurdrail side I might add) of a 75deg turn and that was the last I saw of him. We agreed to meet at the first Joe bar we saw. I get to this nice little coffee house and wait a whole 4 minutes for his ass. He didn't say much to me the rest of the day. MY point is that in my mind Lightnings are purchased by people that want a balls ass quick truck right now and don't really care about running corners that much. That's why you see many more R/T's in CA and AZ than Lightnings. We like to do more that just keep a truck in one direction. I'll say it again Lightning's are very, very fast as long as the driver does not have to do some real driving and think about what he or she's doing.

i know his is light but what the hell? i was kicking his ass in the drag race until 65-70 mph and he flew by and passed me. u think i need my pcm replaced? any help would be great. thanks,

Message: The benchmark for speed isn't made rounding corners at 70mph...it's the 1/4mile drag strip(at least in America). If you want to brag about something that can handle corners and take a Lightning then go buy a Syclone. I'm not raggin on any truck here, but if you want props for handling then go win some road rallies.

Message: For you '00 and older R/Ts, if you think your R/T's computer has been messed with, then purchase a Mopar PCM. The "authorized software update" sticker on your stock pcm is one BIG indication that some dealer has messed with the pcm.
For you '01 and newer R/Ts, get yourself the B&G flash, HPP3, or some other quality chip or programmer. A PCM upgrade should be one of your first mods because all stock programming bites.

Message: in case some of you guys dont know, the dealer puts "updates" on your PCM almost everytime your truck is at the dealership. Some of these updates can erase your performance flashes(KRC,Mike Leach). It doesn't matter what year you have, as far as I know. According to Mike Leach, if you have an aftermarket flash and you go to the dealer be sure to tell them you do not want any PCM updates, by law they cannot put them on...but if you dont tell them they will put them on and you will never know except for that little sticker on your PCM. The dealer doesn't have to tell you they did a PCM update, so be sure to tell them not to put any on.
