Subject: Heatshield for K&N Intake for 4.7 v8

Message:
I was wondering if anyone knows if there really is a difference with or withgout the heatshield. I Think the heatshield is blocking a lot of incoming air. So I didn't put it on. But I wanted toi know if anyone knows a lil more with the heatshield on. Thanks

Seat of the pants dyno tells me that the K&N system doesn't flow $200 worth more then that homebrew with no baffle. I'd guess no.

The K&N replaces the airhat. That's why the price is so much higher. It might not make to much difference on a stock one, but it should make a pretty big difference on with more mods.

I disagree. I ran my home brew all the way up to the TB. After noticing how loud it was while towing, I replaced a section with the airhat. The air hat is smooth inside and is a clean 90. It has a chamber off to the side to buffer the noise. I saw NO difference in power. None. I still feel the air hat has almost nothing to do with lose of power. It's in the stock filter, air box, tube, and the fluted elbows.

Back to the heat shield though...I think there would be some difference with vs without the heatshield. Just not enough to spend $200 more is all.

Just my $.02. Your happy to disagree. It's your money.

I too have tried several versions of the "homebrew" variety. I also tow and found it to be way to noisy and also felt loss in low end torque. Went back to everything stock, with K&N airfilter and truck is happy. To be honest the only thing the "homebrew"did was casue more noise and I really did not notice any difference in power or fuel consumption.

OMG!!! I don't even know what to say....

It made a huge difference in power I thought.
Made a big difference in noise too until I put the airhat section back on.

Many people here run the homebrews.....

Ya all do whacha want tho....itscher money.
