Message: It won't work at all. The '00 has different pin in and out as well as different O2 senors and other sundry items. The part numbers are different as well. Sorry.

Hope that helps. The Numbers above are for the Mopar performance PCM. There were a lot of changes in the PCM between those years.

Message: Once the PCM has been flashed with a VIN number it can't be used in another dakota. When started the PCM asks the body controller module (BCM) for it's VIN. If the two VIN numbers (BCM and PCM) don't compare the PCM cuts fuel. As far as I know there is no way to re-flash the PCM with another VIN.

Message: I believe the dealer can flash new VINs. When you buy a MP PCM you have to get your mileage and VIN flashed to use it, so somebody must be able to do it.

Message: 1. The MOPAR PCM is not a chip. It is a replacement computer.
2. The VIN in the PCM will not keep it from working in another vehicle. The security system may. If the original owner has a factory security system, the PCM will work work in a truck that does not have the security system. If the buyer has the security system the PCM will work. I've have a used VIN flashed pcm that works in my 99 Durango. Both of us had the sercurity system. I've tried my stock PCM in a non security system equiped vehicle, and it does not work. I've also tried a non security equiped PCM in my truck. (Dan Arcand aka Fastman) Thank goodness I did not activate the alarm The security system is not in the PCM (the same part number works for both) but something gets set in the PCM when it is activated. This has gone around and around. I read from others on Dodge forums who have come to the same conclusion that it is the alarm feature
3. The mileage is not stored in the PCM. It is in the CAB.

Message: It cuts off fuel because the vin numbers do not match (PCM and BCM). Daniel D. says the vin can be reflashed once flashed but I did not have any luck on my 98. On a new PCM the dealer is prompted to input the vin and mileagebut once prompted (using the scan tool) they are not prompted again.

Message: VINs don't have to match. I have a used PCM with with the previous owners VIN in it. No problems and as I said above I also had Fastman's PCM in my Durango. My stock PCM would only crank his. The only difference between our trucks is his does not have the alarm.
