I've been thinking of doing a port job on my 68mm TB. Been thinking of taking the step out of it. Also consdiered taking it to work and putting it up on the CNC and taper it from something to a true 68. Anyone know what the step does. I read (in searches) that the step is for torque. Not sure. Could use some ideas. Will it help?

GPS, What's your coordinates?

I ported my 68mm TB about 2 yrs ago. Mostly, I just took off the step, and thinned the sides alittle to make it a more direct flow to the blade.

There was NO loss in torque after porting and removing the step. An old post of Bernds' said that that was the idea for it (the step), but it really doesn't work. You can certainly open up more, with the stock butterfly blade in there.

Thanks. Maybe I'll look into taking it off and knocking that out.

I assume you'd do it again....

Yea,

I'd do it again. Don't expect much however, remember, the stocker already flows pretty good.

It's easy, cheap, and should be on your list of simple, good mods. I used Dremel Tool, and a grinder bit and a #60 sander wheel, that's what CW recommended at the time. It worked well. I may do mine again and take a little more off, and get it even smoother.

I'm in the Houston/Galveston area. The batteries are too low in my GPS to get a reading right now.

I didn't expect much. I'm thinking about the thrid cat removal and the HO cams now that the Body Lift is done. So I thought since I have it all apart, not might be a good time to do that too if it's cheap enough to do and doesn't hurt.

gps,

I'm at: N 29*34.516

The cams are really nice. I'm adding the HO intake within a few weeks, it's in my hall closet right now.

I stopped by two different muffler shops, none will remove my third cat, bummer.

I think things like a CAI, ported TB, no belt clutch/fan, etc., really help each other out some in getting some trouble free, cheap extra ponies.

Good luck.

So you already have the cams? Great. I'll wait till you get the HO intake in. I want to hear from someone who's had it with and without. I hear you can get more low end with just the cams and better high end with both. You'll know for sure once you put it in.

gps,

yea, I think you're right.

.alex. has a dyno of cams, and cams and intake I think, he's posted it, they're here somewhere-I'm too lazy tonight to look for them.

When .alex. talks about modding this 4.7, I always take notes, he really seems to know his stuff.

I'll have the HO intake in soon, and will be able to make usable power at the top of the powerband! So when I want my QC, family TUV, sailboat towing truck to get on it, I'll wrap it out and surprise even more people that think the QC is a sled. I have alot of fun with this engine and my set-up.

My house is just south of Houston, in a suburb.

Does anyone know if there is any difference between a a stock 68mm with the step removed and a fast man 68mm?

Fastman (according to him) put a thinner tb shaft in also on the 68's. Other then that it's a straight through bore. He does not radius the tops on them. I bored mine and didn't see an improvment at first (as I've posted), however since then I've taken a trip and my gas milage was up about .5mpg. I think it gave me a bit more power at my cruising speed. My 33" BFG's had taken the gas milage south for sure. So it's good to know I'm getting some of it back. This weekend is the HO Cam install. Can't wait to get those in and see what happens. Hope the milage gets even better.

Thanx for the info gps. I think I'm just gonna go with a stock 68 from the dealership and port it myself. I've been waiting 3 weeks for my fast man to ship and I'm getting bored. Hopefully it will be an improvement over my 65. Keep us posted on the cams. After the throttle body and Leach flash that will be my next mod.
