Is Anyone else fed up with the car makers messing with engines.I mean for instance dodges 3.7 V6 in the Ram has 215hp and 235ftlb torque. The 3.9 V6 in the Dakota has only 175hp and 225ftlb of torque we all know that if anything the Quad cab could use a bigger v6 but no lets put the small one in.I am tired of all the run around with differences. This truck has this liter and this horsepower with this torque this truck has less liter more horsepower higher torque come on already. Now they replace the 5.9 with the 5.7 hemi in the ram and 5.9 is only avaliable in the durango.I can imagine the cost of a tune up on the hemi 2 plugs per cylinder.Same with Ford,Chevy.... Just venting

Soon we will have the hoods of vehicles sealed so individuals won't be able to mess things up. Just one of the new EPA requirments for the future.

The old A based Magnum line should have been dropped years ago. Dodge used to be known for their engines. Now they're just crap. The 3.9 is a POS but because of politics and CAFE Dodge has churned out hundreds of thousands of those V6 boat anchors over the last 6 years. The 5.2 was always just a smog motor and the 5.9 was good...25 years ago.

I think Chevy is running away with 1st prize in the engine catagory. Their new small block line is beautiful. I'm pondering an LS6 crate motor in my Dakota. That would be sweet.

Hoods sealed? Where did you read that at? Maybe once we're all on hydrogen but I can see law makers shooting that one down really quick. What if you have to change a battery or something? Or windshield wiper fluild?

CThomp, something tells me that the guy who posted that was only being sarcastic and really didn't have any evidence to back it up. My mistake if you do though, so if you do by all means lets see it.

i,ve heard the same thing.you,ll be able to check oil, trans, fluids etc.but if the seal is broke the warranty will be void unless the dealer break it.

also heard vetts have a data computer that records and stores how the car has been driven, that the dealer can retrive this info for warranties.

seems like that the big 3 may be watching you,not
just uncle sam.

if its not happening now, probable soon

Both of those things are currently illegal. You own the vehicle, not the maker. You're entitled to take it apart and put it back together as you wish. If you mess it up, your warranty is voided for that part or component only.

For example, they can't void your transmission warranty if you install an aftermarket stereo. They can void the warranty on any part you might fukc up while doing so.

As for the "black boxes" those too are illegal. They have been tested by the HTSA for general use to reconstruct accidents, but there are no production vehicles that come with them, aside from aircraft. It would be illegal for an automaker to deny warranty based on the claim that their "black box" told them you abused the car.

Check out the FTC website for more info.
