Subject: Beter gas mileage with synthetic diff fl IP: Logged
Message: I was palning on changing the lube in my rear end and was planing on putting conventional old Valvoline 80-90 gear lube. I looked at the back of the bottle of Valvoline Durablend 75-90(a premium/conventional blend) and it says it offers improved gas mileage over the conventional. Is this true? If so, how much better would my gas mileage be with the blend? Also, my 93 4x4 Dakota has a 318 and 3.55's LS and almost 104,000 miles on it if that matters.

Message: Gas mileage will not be noticibly better. Synthetic will not have as much friction as conventional but I don't think you will ever be able to measure the difference. For the record, I use synthetic in both my car and truck motors and rearends.

Message: Andrew, the only difference I noticed was with a 5 speed Dakota, there was a little less "backlash" when letting off thottle but you have an auto so may not feel it.
