what i have is dakota sport 3.9l with a 42re my ? is have a chance to pick up a 5.2l out of a ram 98 i think will the 42re hook up and if so will it handle the 5.2 if so can you tell me what is need . (not doing it myself over my head).

it will work but it won't last, D/C put a bigger badder tranny able to handle the increased torque and HP that the V-8's have, stock, in the V-8 models.
