Message: Yeah, I like how they so falsly advertise "30+HP"! Gimme a break. Where do they come up with that crap? One has just to look at the long list of changes that the factory made to get 30 more HP out of the 4.7 - a LOT more than just the intake and cams. My guess is more like 10-15HP for the cam/intake mod.

Message: If you want to see the 30+ hp listed from those mods you need to port the heads (larger valves), use a warm air intake, and open up the exhaust (x-pipe; true duals; headers). Actually, that will give you around 45-50 total (if it's done right). Oh yeah, don't forget adding a larger bore TB (68mm-70mm)...

Message: This might be a little much for the question but here it goes. Can you put the HO motor in a Dak? Lets say you get a wrecked HO can you take the whole mess and put it in the Dak. Are the sensors the same? Is the wiring harness the same? Could this be bolt motor in change computer and down the road we go? I'VE GOT WAY TO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS!!!

I'm sure it is a nearly direct bolt up, and you'll sure have fun doing the wiring harness.
She's doable though.
I just want that crank and intake manifold.
There are Better cams, better head mods, better computer flashes, the pistons are good if you want to stay N/A, but otherwise not, but I would venture to say that the cast crank in the regular 4.7 can hold up to, say 550 or 600 hp without complaining, so who wants to go higher than that?!
There are DEFINITELY MUCH better ways to spend your money on 35 hp and 35 lbs of torque!!
GET A KB OR A VORTECH SETUP AND INTERCOOL IT FOR A QUICK BOLT ON. That should bring you to a low 13 with the right pulley, then just do a custom boost controller setup and try to get like a 13 lb. wheel for it. I'd rather do a turbo but that would definitely get good results with the right fuel setup.

+/-275 hp and +/-362tq
Mods:
PCM Flash
72mm TB
3" exhaust from y-pipe back
Volant Cool Air Tube w/ no filter (for dyno)
Short belt that excludes power steering pump (for dyno)
HO cams
HO intake
Removed radiator clutch fan
$1500 in mods (give or take) gets me 40 more hp and 68 in tq.
That's pretty damn cheap if you do your research on how much performance parts cost.

Message: PPS- Yes, I believe that you could take that wrecked Jeep HO motor from EBay and bolt it right into the Dak. The only wiring differences I am aware of are the knock sensors. If you get the Jeep PCM, then you could probably even run those, too.

Message: Well, for those of us with 70,000 mi on our long blocks, it starts looking attractive. I was just looking at a link on here the other day where someone was selling a 4.7HO motor COMPLETE with all accessories and hoses. The motor had 9 miles on it; it was out of a Jeep that was destroyed during shipping, and you could click the buy-it-now button for $4000.
It has a certain ring to it.... starting over with an all-forged reciprocating assembly, and having the leisure to insert better pistons and work on the heads/cams etc while the motor's out of the truck. Plus, the tranny was included in that $4000. You could prolly sell the tranny by itself for $1500 or more. Then your forged HO motor just cost $2500. hmm.....

Either balance the flywheel for a manny tranny, or take the HO motor apart and get it internally balanced. Not a huge deal. Especially with the leftover $1500 you have from selling the tranny. You could prolly make more cash selling all the accessories that are already on the motor itself.

Message: Damn, I even forgot he had the transfer case and PCM included in the deal. Lots of parts to sell for more cash.... this thing just gets cheaper & cheaper.
Take the selling price of $3150 and start whittling away... $1000 for tranny, $500 for t-case, $100 for steering pump, $150 for alternator, $150 for A/C pump, etc....
Pretty soon, you've got lots of money to develop a flywheel solution.

Message: Well just using the 5.2/5.9s for an example, you can take a 5.2 flywheel and make it for a 5.9, but you cant take a 5.9 and make it for a 5.2. So this might present a problem

Message: I am lost on your last question. But I think you meant can you take a 5.9 flywheel and use behind a 5.2, the answer is no.
You also cant rebalance a 5.9s flywheel for a 5.2, but you can take a 5.2s flywheel and balance it for a 5.9. You balance a 5.2s flywheel for a 5.9 by drilling three holes in it.
I am still not sure about the differences in the balance between the 4.7 and the 4.7HO. I wonder if they are balanced the same? They have different crank shafts, but do they have different balances?
Early example of the 318s - the first ones had forged cranks, but they still have the same balance as the 318s with cast cranks. So maybe the 4.7s have the same balance.
Do the 4.7HOs and the regular 4.7s have the same torque converters in the automatics? That would answer the question.

Message: 1. There are more than a few guys running NV-3500's behind the 360 and even the 408's (same block). So, I was asking what's involved in running the manny tranny behind the auot-tranny flywheel. Looks like you basically have to bolt a 5.2 flywheel to the 5.9 crank.
2. As for the tq converters on the 4.7 and HO motor..... I dunno. That's one for the guys at the parts counter at the dealer.
Good thing I am not planning on dropping the HO motor into my truck anytime soon.... this is complicated stuff here.

Okay. Flexplate/torque converter. Durrr....
So, you would need to know if the 4.7 is internally balanced or externally balanced. And address the issue from there....

Message: Yea - the 5.2s/5.9s automatics use the same flex plate, but different torque converters.
The issue is wether or not the 4.7 and 4.7HOs have the same balance. if they do, then its a HO assembly for me! If not, since there are no 4.7HO manual applications yet, I dont think anyone could convert the reg 4.7 flywheel over.
