Message: That stock cat and y-pipe setup is definitely an inhibiting factor that should be eliminated. I think even a good set of shorty's with a pair of 2.5" downpipes through a pair of 2.5" cats y'ed into a 3" with a single exit design is the way you want to go for optimum gas velocity, but the X-pipe seems to do well too.
Look for at least a tenth or almost that when you replace the whole setup, especially with those long tube headers, maybe more than a tenth?!
Plus it should add a little torque and a LOT better 4000 and up performance, not to mention finally getting that drag-car sound that rattles the windows.
I hate mufflers.
Want some good exhaust products?
Check out Burns-Stainless for all the tubing and collectors, etc., etc. NICE racing mufflers too.
I've found a few sites that sell all the stainless and mild u-bends you want, and merge collectors for $21 or so. I want to do an equal length turbo manifold with about a 20" runner, and I'll probably end up doing the other side to equalize the flow characteristics of the route through the turbo. That should be some good time in the shop.

Message: My estimates will be decent low end gains, with massive (well, comparitively speaking to other headers) gains over 3800 RPM all the way up to 6000 RPM+. We'll see in the coming months.

Message: I just received my JBA headers! 100% improvement over the stock manifolds. I DO wish that long tubes were available but for now, these will be an improvement.
Mr. H, I like the idea of the larger down pipes, do you know if the down pipes for the 4.7 is the same bolt pattern as 5.0L mustangs? They seem to be readily available so thought it would be a cheap and easy way to do it. I'm replacing the cat back on my son's 89 5.0 LX tomorrow and I'll see if the flow tubes are the same bolt pattern as the JBAs. If so , I could have oxygen sensor bungs welded into some flow tubes and use them??? Anyone replace their down pipes before? What did you use?

Message: I don't know a mustang from a honda man, but the o2 sensor setup just depends on your computer. I have the 2001 with the 4 (FOUR!!!) o2 sensors, and since catco 2.5" cats are cheaper than the Fastman or KRC o2 simm by about $50 for the pair I'm goin with them instead.

4.7L Throttle Body Swap:
For those who don't know, the 4.7L comes with two flavors of throttle bodies. The '99-'00 models use a 65mm and the '01 models use a 68mm throttle body. You can easily swap out the later model 68mm throttle body for your performance-limiting 65mm without any problems. You can tell which one you have by looking at the stamped number on the throttle plate. "65" = 65mm / "68" = 68mm
