Subject: Exhaust ?????? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 dakota sport 3.9L. I was interested in getting a flowmaster muffler. Will I be able to just swap the mufflers out for more power?? I would rather try that than replacing the whole system considering it is still brand new.

Message: That should be a no brainer. Yes... You can switch out the muffler and the cat and get a decrease in back presure and an increase in HP. You don't have to go with mandrel bent just to get a gain.

Message: Why not just run an high flow cat and no muffler? I know a guy that had his 99 Dodge Ram 4x4 360 automatic in the shop a while back and I was wondering what kind of exhaust he was running. It was fairly loud and sounded pretty good. Well, I looked under the truck and there was no muffler just two pipes split back behind the cat. I asked the owner if it was too loud driving this truck at highway speeds without a muffler and he said that it wasn't. He was in the construction business and drove his truck to Kentucky, Virginia, and New York on a regular basis and he said the noise was never a problem.
