How much horsepower does a 4.7 H.O. make? Jeep rates it at 265 hp but, I have seen sources quoted where it is supposed to be like 290. Does somebody know for sure?

290? doubtful... 265 I'll buy into, that seems to be where teh HO parts get you close to on a stocl non-HO motor...

The HOs also have some head tweaking.

There is more to an HO Engine than the CAMS, Heads and intake. There is a couple Knock sensors and a different compression pistons and Platinum plugs (that don't work well in the Dakota 4.7L). Like 9.5-1 compared to the 9-1's or something close to that. But the Heads are different and have a bit bigger valves and port angles, and the Intake manifold is different, and the cams are different. Need to do more than cams and intake on the Dakota to get 30+ hp to bring it up to 265. cams and intake only brings it up about 15 total hP to about 250.

Oh the Jeep HO is rated at 265 or 270, as the name implies, Old Fool. So the Memory isn't what it used to be.

Well I put 230 to the tires with HO cams and intake, K&N homebrew, removed clutch fan, platinum plugs, catback, and short belt. belt was only worth 6 HP. So that is 30 over stock for a 2wd 4.7 5-speed. that is how I figure the 265 is as good a number for the HO as 230 (I had 3 cats) was on my 2000.
