Subject: KRC Performance.com Question??? IP: Logged
Message: I am bout to oreder a K&N Fuel Injection Performance Intake for my 93 5.2 V8. They say that for $30 more, I can add an air temp sensor for increased throttle response and mileage. Has anyone ordered this Intake system with the new air temp sensor, and does it actually work. (better yet, is it worth $30 extra bucks???)

Message: I am going to make an educated guess that what they are doing is putting a hole in the bottom of the filter housing so that the IAT sensor can be put there to allow the computer to get a better idea of what the temp actually is coming into the engine.
If you have the tools you could just put the sensor there yourself. Get the filter and put the needed size hole and gaskets in for the sensor and just move it there. Then plug up the old hole in the #2 intake runner. You should get a bit more power and maybe better throttle response.

Message: Are you getting a whole new sensor? Or are they just drilling you a whole and sending you a plug to plug the whole where your old one will be removed from?

Message: You dont need the sensor! Just get the K&N FIPK.
Once you get it you can drill a hole about 6-8 inches away from the throttle body underneath (for looks)the FIPK tube!
Once you do that take the plug (that you can get from home depot I think its a 1/4 inch NPT plug correct me if I'm wrong guys)that you are gonna be using to plug the intake and tap the drilled hole unless you have a tap and die set!
Once it is tapped put some teflon tape on the threads of the sensor and screw it in the drilled hole!
install the plug in the intake with teflon tape and install you FIPK!
Done
Thats what i did and worked fine!

Message: There is no tube on the FIPK for the older daks, just a round open element filter. The sensor could go on the bottom of the filter housing though.

Message: I would like to make a sleeper out of a two wheel drive grand cherokee larado by installing a 6.1 liter srt hemi engin and transmission. The engin would have your upgraded ported and polished heads with matching intake, the largest cam possible and still be steetable, long tube headers and high flow cats. I'm not concerned about gas mileage. So the more extreme the better.

Message: My 03 4.7 uses a 1/4 turn twist lock to hold the IAT. A round hole won't do the trick. Maybe that's what KRC is offering. KRC is expemsive, but what you're paying for is their knowledge and testing as much as their actual products. How many 4.7's have you built? How many different way do you think they've built them? That's what your paying for. I could have had the cams reground myself, but they know what will work and what you should expect after the install. How many cams you gonna regrind to find that ideal set-up? You get what you pay for folks.
