Subject: 20in tires at the track IP: Logged
Message: on my 97 v8 5.2 5spd reg cab 2x4, i have the 275/60/15, i want to get the RT rims b/c 17 inch with a low profile is a all around good tire for the street/strip. however i can get a good deal on some 20s, my question ,if i get like a 30 or 35 profile tire for my 20s, will my accel. be that much worse then lets say a RT 17in rim with a 55 of 60 profile ? thanks

Message: louiee,
tires with less side wall have less "bite" and will have worse traction at the strip.

Message: Yeah, I have a 2wd Durango with RT 20's and at the track I had VERY little traction and I'm sure it slowed me down by numerically lowering my gear ratio and the 20's are way heavier than the stock 15's. But, with that being said they look badass and I still managed a 10.21 in the 8th which ain't too bad for a 5,000 pound hog! later

Message: American Racing Maxims + 255/35/20 weighed in less than my stock R/T Rims and tires. But, there is less side wall like Intense said. Best thing to do is keep your stock rims. Throw some slicks on them and take them with you to the track.
