Can someone please explain to me the benfits of a higher stall converter? How does it affect drivablity and performance driving. Will it make my truck go faster on the street as well as the strip? Sorry for the stupidity but I figured if anyone could set me straight you guys could. BTW, I have a 2wd 5.9 Durango so I have a very heavy vehicle that I do take to the drag strip and race. Best time so far 10.21 in the 8th so how much improvement would I see with a performance converter?

Higher stalls are generally used for guys w/ a bigger cam or 1.7 RR's where the powerband is usually higher in the rpms than usual.

It mainly depends on how far you plan to go w/ your mods. If your gonna do a cam then get at least a 2400-2800 stall. If your not gonna do major engine mods then the highest I'd go is 2400.

You'd notice better performance because its keeping the rpms higher where the power is made. Look into the Mopar Performance 2400, I used to have it and I liked it alot. It was about $210

The higher stall- torque convertor lets you leave the line at a higher rpm- stalled up. It also lets you hit each gear at no less then the stall. I just got a custom stall to compliment my full race tranny- yay!!! It is a ~2400 NA and about 2700 with a power adder- nitrous in my case. I would get a custom made one built for how much power you have or you wont be as pleased with what you get. With slick you should get about 2tenths with a higher stall/better built torque convertor. Will you go faster on the street? Yes, because you will be in your powerband quicker.

Daker777-- So, what's the custom stall??? My mopar is a 2400, and sees 2600-2700 on the juice.

Actually you will be quicker, not faster. No effect on street top end. Expect your transmission to run a little hotter.

Sam- this is brig. The custom stall I got is my stock stall reworked. Probly very similar to your(mopar) stall. Except it has a few higher quality parts in it and is setup for my power output. I asked my friend- who built my tranny about them and he talked my ears off. I was going to get the PI stall, but couldnt see spending the extra cash for marginal increase. He said either get the PI, or get mine done by a place he sends a lot of his to. He said he wouldnt warranty my tranny if i didnt go with one he recomended. The cost for it to be done was less then the mopar stall.
