I have my own custom intake on my truck that I built from 1 rubber 45 degree connecter and a foot and a half of steel pipe with a 9 inch K@N filter attached to the end of it. Now I notice that when I first start my truck on hot days it runs decent. On cold days it runs great. Well what I have concluded is that the K@N filter which sits about 6 inches away from the engine sucks in all the hot air therefore decreasing the performace of the truck. Well on my 2001 3.9 4X2 regular cab, there is a nice amount of space behind the left headlight and the left side of the bumper underneath the headlight( If you are looking from the front of the truck or also known as the passenger side). Well there is a metal plate there that I would like to cut a 3 inch hole in and extend my intake tube, add another 45 degree angle connector and go straight down inbetween the front bumper and wheel well, so my truck will always suck in cold air. THe thing is, will this weaken my trucks structure or cause any problems? Ive already measured everything and the smaller K@N filter that I have will fit very nice inbetween the bumper and wheel well, I just wanted some opinions on the matter, before I have someone cut the hole. THanks and sorry for the long post.

I had considered doing the same thing on my '02 4.7. I don't have fog lights so I was going to cut out the holes where they go to let the cold air thru.

Post here and LMK how it goes. :)
