Can u use a M/P 97 (5.2l) 5speed computer on a 97 Auto, also a 5.2?? If not why?? I don't see any application for the 97 5.2L M/P computers.

No. The pcm controls the lockup torque converter which the 5-speed doesn't have. I run the 97 MP PCM (only the CA version was released) for the auto. on the streets.

Ed ... MP could not get EPA approval for a Federal version. It will work with any 97 5.2 auto. It is not as aggressive with the fuel table and timing as a Fed version would have been, and it backs timing off drastically at the shift points. I use it on the streets but not on the track. HTH.

Welcome to the club! I ended up getting the hypertech pp III. Been very happy with it. Only problem is it doesn't adjust the shift points.

The shift points are what need adjustment most. I have a custom comp cams with 210/216 duration. The motor also has a M-1, Ford 19lb injectors with F/M 52MM tb, M/P headers and true duals. The motor gets out of the powerband when it shifts. I need to raise the s/points at least 500rpm and want to rev it to at least 6000. I thought the Hypertech PP3 would change shift points also??
