Subject: 02 R/T gone IP: Logged
Message: Well as I mentioned in the R/T vrs Chevy thread, I went out looking at new cars and trucks because I wasn't happy with my R/Ts performance against pretty much every one I raced. I got tired of losing and I wasn't about to start the money dumping without any guarantees on results. I had money to mod my R/T but instead put it down on a used 02 Lightning. The sales manager was driving it around and only has 7,000 miles on it and is in great shape. I got it for $25,500! They even gave me an extended warranty! Whith the great interest rate(compared to what I had on my R/T) my payment is only 15 dollars more a month than my R/Ts. But I have a year more of payments now, but I think it's worth it considering the performance difference. I think if I used the $2000 on mods for the R/T instead of putting it down on the Lightning I wouldn't of been close to this Lightning at all. Sure N2O maybe, but I like having the power all the time. I also looked around on the Lightning sites and from what I have found out a pully and chip(about $500) will put me in the high 12s! Or I could just do exhaust and filter($350) and do low 13s! I appreciate all the help you guys have been, but I felt I should go a different rout.
Thanks.

Message: Well good luck. I have a cousin with an 01 Lightning and he likes it. I have to admitt I get tired of losing to him. It seems I get a little closer after I do a mod and then he does some minor tweak and he is further ahead of me than when we started. I have to say though, I like the look of the R/Ts, but his Lightning ain't bad. They look better in person than in pictures.

Message: Enjoy. Make sure you reaserch those mods before you do them. I use my R/T as a daily driver and my Harley Ford(pully, chip, filter) as a weekend cruiser. Have fun.

Message: I dont blame you. I wanted a Lightning too but they were too much $$$. I got the R/T and loved `til I raced people and turned a crappy time at the track. So now I`m dumping thousands just to keep up with whats out there. I do enjoy picking out parts and working on my R/T.
Enjoy your Lightning. Just dont look down your nose at R/Ts like 50% of Lightning owners do.

Message: Enjoy the Lightning, but is it true that they have a low payload? I know it is a sports car with a bed but is it that bad?

Message: I think the Lightning has a bit more payload than my R/T, but can tow quite a bit more. I think they are close to a regular 1/2 ton in the work department.

Message: The R/T can tow just as much as the Lighting if you set it up correctly. Dodge lowered the factory tow rating due to the lowered suspension, and to protect themselves from getting sued when people tried to tow heavy stuff without setting up the truck properly. With the drivetrain we have, we should technically be able to tow just as much as a full size Ram with the 360. We are just limited by suspension. As far as the Lightnings, if you want a turn key performance truck, the the Lightning is definitly for you. if you like to work on your own vehicles and have the personal satisfaction from picking and choosing the right mods, and doing the work yourself, then the R/T is the better choice. The Lightnings come pretty much maxed out from the factory. A little computer tuning and a pulley are about the xtent of the mods you can do without causing too many problems. After that, you start getting into the more serious mods just like you woudl with the R/T, and spending more money. As has been posted many times before, "Speed costs money!! How fast do you want to go??"

Message: Why would I want a single cab full sized truck? I know the Lightining is fast, but its still a r/c truck. Sorry, Id keep my extended cab Dak any day!
BTW, you could have gotten a new Hemi 1500 otd for $26k. 20" wheels, potentially stronger engine, and its a 2003. Your mistake.

Are they midgets, or rhesus monkeys?
That's why I have the practical Quad cab, where you can really sit comfortably in the back, and the front passengers don't have to move their seat all the way up, just to give 8 inches of floor space! If you don't need the back, a CC is good for storing things, speakers, rhesus monkeys, etc.

Message: Save your $ and skip the R/T. Mopar Now magazine did a spread in their most recent issue and ended the 4.7 vs. 5.9 rivalry. They took two bone stock trucks, one 2000 RC 4.7 automatic and one 2000 RC R/T and raced them in the 1/4. Guess which truck was quicker? Here's a hint, it wasn't the R/T.
