 Subject: Tranny shiftin troubles

Can anyone tell me what might cause/be a solution to my tranny shifting problems? What happens is it shifts fine between first and second, but going to third sometimes it wont..i usually have to ease the throtle back then it shifts hard.at first it seemed to be when it was pretty cold (here in canada) but now does it more often then not.What can i check/replace that might help this problem?
i have a 98 cc v8 4x4 (red w/ white stripes and cuda exhaust ;-)
