Subject: Terrible gas mileage after CAI install IP: Logged
Message: I recently installed a cold air intake that I fabricated myself. I used ABS pipe and a VERY large K&N Air filter.
Since the install my gas mileage has decreased greatly. I was getting 14.6 mpg and now I am getting 11.6. I have a 5.9 Litre.
I am wondering if this is a result of the filter being to big or the hot air temps are causing the computer to pull back timing. The truck seems to have a little less power since I have done this the power curve feels like it flattens out a lot at high RPM's so I am guessing it is timing.
Please help.
Thanks All

Message: Are you sure you're getting addicted to the intake roar, and putting your foot into it more often?
Generally, a CAI adds more low-end torque. I know that was the case with my truck.

Message: I wish that were the case but I don't really hear much of a difference intake wise. Plus my glass pack drowns out most the sound anyhow.

Message: Danny, before mods, my truck was getting about 17 mpg or so, on the highway, and just under 15 mpg , in combined city/highway driving.
After the mods (click on the avatar for info), I've gotten as high as 18.8 at 65 mph on cruise control, and mid 15's in combined driving. I have a 5.2 with 3.55 gears, btw.
