Subject: Intake gaskets, re-usable ?? IP: Logged
Message: I'm swapping out stock keggers and wanted to know if the gaskets between the intake manifold and the heads are re-usable or do I need to by a new set before I get started ? My R/T only has 5,000 miles on it, if that matters.

Message: go ahead and replace the gaskets. never reuse a gasket unless it is a rubber one like on the valve covers or the oil pan. once they are torqued down the become thin and there will be no more sealing material there to make a good tight seal and it will leak vacuum.

Message: Buy new gaskets - Mancini has the best prices from what I've seen - $24 for the gaskets and bolts , Last time I checked at the dealer they were getting $85 for the same kit.

Message: damn???? wheres this mancini dealer/whats the web address!@?!? i paid 35, with no bolts or anything.
you can reuse the gaskets, provided they are in good shape. these are not 'dead-soft' gaskets or any other type of crap material... as long as they are still straight, reuse em if you want.. to be safe, i'd replace them, but if you are tight on cash or dont feel like hunting them down, reuse them. a few tips if youre interested... i replaced my valley pan gasket a month ago.
1-use some hi-tack rtv to hold the gaskets in place and flat against the heads. go to fast4x4.net and read his description on 'cutting the heads of bolts and threading them into the engine'...it WILL make it easier, and trust me, it will be much easier to seat it correctly the first time than re doing it!!
use permatex 'the right stuff' or equivalent for gaskets...that stuff rules...also dont be shy with the gasket maker on the corners where the front and rear gaskets meet the engine...those are problem areas...and pay attention to the torquing order :) from what ive read in your posts, youre pretty knowledgeable, im sure you already know most if not all of what i just told you, but maybe someone who needs help will run across it. good luck.
