Subject: Diff between 97 & 99 ac?

I am very unhappy with my 97 3.9l Dakota's AC system. Actually, it works even less well than my 88 Honda Civics that I retrofitted to 134a, and I was told I would lose a lot of cooling ability by retrofitting the Honda. I noticed a used car buying guide put out by Consumer Reports yesterday, and it gives the 95 Dakota the worst rating for ac, and 96 and 97 Dakotas the second worst rating [half black circle/dot]. However, it gave the 99 Dakota the best rating [full red dot/circle]. Does anyone know what parts are different in these systems [97 versus 99]? After all, if I can retrofit it with 99 parts and it works MUCH better, sign me up! I recharged my system and added leak sealant and had it working fine for about a month. Then, I noticed it not working any more. Don't know if it is the compressor, or a MAJOR leak. I do know my truck has a horrible reputation for the quality of its ac system. If the 99 is so much better I would like to swap anything I can to make mine as efficient. Thanks for any/all input. I will put this on the v6 owners page also, as well as the performance one, as I want the highest exposure possible, to get the most feedback. Thanks again!
