Message: My truck ('02 4.7) came equipped with 2 cooling fans under the hood.
One, the clutch fan, is mounted on the front of the engine and is belt driven. It only runs at lower RPM's to draw cool air thru the radiator.
The other is the electric fan. It's mounted on the back of the radiator and runs when the engine needs additional cooling capacity, like when the A/C is running.
Removing the clutch fan will reduce parasitic drag and allow your engine to rev freer thus making more power available.
I've done this freebie mod and have had no problems running only the factory electric fan in stock configuration, though some people recommend adapting it to be thermostatically controlled so it goes on & off at predetermined temperatures, which is something I plan to do just to be safe.
