Subject: HP limit on stock 4.7 internals????
IP: Logged

What is the boost limit before you need o-ring job on the block and new head gasket for a turbo/ s/c setup?

Also, what is the max hp limit before you need to do new pistons/rings, rods, crankshaft and bearings,
I guess the answer would be easy to tell from the type of stock bearings, pistons, rods, and crank, oil passages the 4.7 comes with......
Anybody know the specs?

I think Duner can safely run 14psi of boost with his turbo. You might want to try to get a hold of him.

Keep tweaking, increasing the boost until she blows. Then set it 2 psi lower. LOL
But seriously, Im considering a s/c setup as well, but factoring in things like fuel pumps, installation, and keeping enough money for possible tranny disintegrations and engine gaskets, its looking alot more expensive than just the bolt on kit.
I would be keeping mine at factory levels (6 PSI)

You'll be lucky if you can get past 450 hp.
Then your rods will be telling knock knock jokes...hehe

I would contact KRC & ask marty, these rods look strong, the pistons I think would be you weak link the pin height is real short, the crank is a cast unit & I think it should be good for at least 500hp. you can safely run a 440 with a cast crank upto 650,and there is a lot of small chevys, 360/5.9s out there makeing over 450-500 with a cast crank& no problems

Ive heard about these motors being lightened up to be economical and quick turning... Lightened rods, pistons.
I want to turn 450+ hp with boost that can be turned down for city driving (or up heh heh heh)and have a setup good for 12's or low 13's in the 1/4 and be able to turn it down and get 17 mpg on the hi way.....
Ive heard that a turbo running at slow speeds can help your gas mileage because of fuel atomization. But you would have to adjust your air fuel for slow driving and take a risk of running too lean w/o some good gagues and a little knowledge.
Thats why Id like to keep cams as near stock as possible. Intake and exhaust to be free flowing, and maybe port my exhaust side....
A mild cam if I just gotta..
A cam that gains 10 hp naturally aspirated can multiply that with a lot of boost up to 50 or 60 hp with the right ecu setup...
I was thinking about a Venom 400 controller...

So far I haven't found the mechanical limit for boost or HP levels on a stock 4.7 bottom end.

I haven't pushed it beyond 14-15 psi of boost.

As far as how much HP I've gotten out of it so far?

You guys will have to go from the actual timeslips and guess like I have. No real dyno pulls yet with boost. All of the online HP calculators are pretty generous or overly optimistic in their numbers - so who really knows. So far the best (real) timeslip shows 12.43 @ 116 mph.

Here's an online calculator:

http://www.speedworldmotorplex.com/calc.htm

You guys plug the numbers in and see what you come up with. The truck weighs 4270 to 4360 lbs depending upon fuel at time of weighing.

Duner, your truck runs a 12 sec 1/4? No way... Thats close to 500 horses!! What all have you done to it besides the turbo?

How did you build the manifold and crossover pipe? Please show us some pics!!!!!

Wow, thats fast! What I was actually talking about was pics of the setup...
But, the sound of the T4 spooling is killer too!

What type of ECU / Fuel/Air control do you use?
Turbo Timer? Boost Controller? Ceramic Ball or oil turbo? How the heck did you build a header??

Hey Duner, what is the governor on your truck. I have a 00 4.7 auto. I put on a Kenne Bell charger and was told they could not take mine off. I'm governed at 96 mph. I haven't made a run in the 1/4 yet but i'm worried about hitting it before i'm done.
