Subject: epoxy fix in head
IP: Logged

Message:
Ive bought a set of heads that were ported/polished and the "porter" had to put epoxy in it to fill a hole. He said when they were cast there was a big void and after porting them , that made the spot be a hole. The spot is on the intake side between the intake ports. Maybe the size of a quarter.

Anyone ever heard of using epoxy to do this ? I was told it will be fine but common sense tells me I dont like the idea of having 2 diferent kinds of material touching where they will expand and contract . Especially with all that heat too.

Thanks.

Were they your heads that you had ported/polished? If they were new i'd be pissed and ask for a new set. Even if they might be ok it doesn't seem like a set of heads that have been epoxied would have the same quality as a set of heads that hadn't been. Heads aren't cheap so the quality shouldn't be cheap either.

i would return them...better to look like a dick to the guy who scammed you (thats what it seems like to me) than to look like a dick on the highway when your heads give out...your call.

I doubt a casting flaw is so severe its needs to be epoxied. I wouldnt accept it if you are only getting a port/polish job.
Now if you the "porter" knew what he was doing and reshaped the ports with epoxy...thats completely different.
Based on what you're telling us...sure we'd agree with you. What is the other guys story?
