Message: Thanks to all that responded on my problem with wheel hop. I have since taken the blocks off and, luckily, got my whole $35.00 back!! I guess that's what I get for taking advice from someone who has an underpowered S-10!! By the way, my problem is with take off. It feels like the bed of my truck is going to come off. I don't stay in the pedal when this happens, but with the torque of the 4.7 it only takes popping the clutch to make the axle hop. I know I could modify my driving skills and slip the clutch, but I don't want to burn it up. Also, I was told on this site that the blocks would change my center of gravity, thus eliminating wheel hop. I guess I bought a free lesson this time!!!

Message: Look at Competition Engineering's website for traction help. Look at the Slide-A-Link bars. They seem to be the next best thing for eliminating wheel hop but still offering a nice street ride. My bed feels like it's coming loose when I launch my 5 spd as well.

Message: Get some Cal-trak bars. Friend of mine has them on his 1st Gen Lightning with a NOVI2000 on it, they do awesome. 1.88 is his best short time on factory rubber. No wheel hop. Granted his truck is auto compared to your stick truck, but still, would think it would make a huge difference.

Message: Caltracs are the way to go, mine work great. And they look tough ;) I'll tell ya what cured alot of wheel hop for me was upgrading to some good shocks, those factory shocks SUCK! I'm using Doetch Tech, Nitro shocks, with a 2" lowering block. The shocks are very firm, unbelievale difference over the factory shock. cured half of the wheel hop, tractions bars, or Caltracs will cure the rest.

Message: Don't be afraid to slip the clutch, that's what it's for. Even racing the crap out of my car I lasted 50k and had 25% left when I had it changed for $350 cause my throwout bearing was squealing. That would have happened no matter how I drove it.
Snapping the clutch is hard on it and can actually snap off the rivets and completely ruin your clutch. Slipping allows laying down the power by ramping up to make the most of your available traction.

Message: There's a difference between backing a frig up a hill slipping 10% at 2,000 rpm and slipping for 2 seconds off the line for a good launch.
